Well I'm so "torn" about writing this review, but I decided that I will... Elaine's is a very nice restaurant, Family owned and operated, has been in business forever, is exceptionally clean, Owners are extremely Friendly, 2 waitresses Chris & Heather are phenomenal....and the Food, Well....that's why I chose to write this review... It's definitely "Hit or Miss" depending on what you order.... You can get a meal at 1 time, Love it, and get it again and it be not anything close to the 1 you had prior! Which that is very disappointing!!! I tried the Veal Parmigan dinner, and my guest had the Chicken Parmigan dinner, a few weeks ago, and we loved them both! We had a great dinner! So we returned again with friends and we ordered 2 Veal Parmigan Dinners, 1 Chicken parmigan dinner, and 1 Scallop dinner!!! As we sat socializing amongst each other, we could hear someone in the kitchen pounding, and pounding, and pounding something, we all made a comment and laughed about it, not thinking anything about it. Well our dinners came out and we all were disappointed just at the looks of them! The pounding we heard was the cook, pounding the Veal and Chicken to smithereens!!!!! Paper thin!!!!! Both Veal dinners and the Chicken dinner were horrible!!! I order Veal Parmigan every restaurant I go to, and yes, some are better than others, but I've never had Paper thin Veal before!!! Our guests were very disappointed in their meal, which again was Veal & Chicken, Paper thin! The Scallop dinner however was Absolutely to die for! Scallops were fresh, tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection with very flavorful rice and vegetables on the side... Also there was not melted mozzarella on our Parmigan meals, it seemed like it was a slice of American cheese, believe it or not, it could have been something else, but definitely was not melted mozzarella!!! I will return to Elaine's and try other dishes, the restaurant and the owners & Chris & Heather are too nice not to, but I won't let myself be disappointed again like that! Really the cook should put away his hammer!!! If you want spectacular Veal Parmigan or Chicken Parmigian, try "Yanni's" in Newington...Now That's a...
Read moreThis is an update to my review of a few days ago. Found myself with another good sized group (18 people) at this restaurant. This time the server was absolutely excellent, remembered everybody's order and all of us were served pretty quickly. (There was no on else in the restaurant at the time.) The food was really good - scallops cooked perfectly, mixed vegetables not over nor undercooked and seasoned well. A little glitch, we asked to have the scallops with the lemon pan sauce on linguini instead of rice - but the pasta came separately with red sauce. The waiter realized it and asked if we wanted it changed, but he was so friendly we said it was OK as it was. One other little problem - common now in most reataurants - the butter packets are almost immpossible to open. I rated the atmosphere at two stars because the bar room was too small for our group's size. I would recommend this restaurant to a smaller group size and not at peak times.
Previous reiew: We were a big group in a separate room. Had to go one by one to the buffet, squeezing by another customer who's seat was obstructing the doorway - dangerous for our elderly group - and for the woman sitting in the doorway. I was very surprised she didn't end up wearing someone's lunch. The food was nothing special, and they ran out of many things. Buffet was not adequately staffed, big hold up at the omelet station, and the meat carving station.. one server for both. Service in the banquet room was very slow. One server only was not enough. Coffee came way after the desert and cream for the coffee didn't come until the coffee was cold. Would not recommend...
Read moreMy family held a banquet luncheon here for a funeral today. If I could give 0 stars for the service, I would. We had the room from 12:00-4 pm. It was a small gathering, 4 tables total in the room. Everyone found a seat when we arrived and because there were a few empty chairs at two of the other tables, The server told 4 of us at one table (including my disabled brother) that we needed to move because they were “closing down” that table because there were seats elsewhere. This was not in the main restaurant, this was in the banquet room that we had a private party in. We should not have been restricted from sitting anywhere in that room. The service was terrible, at best. The servers were unfriendly and in a huge rush. As I said, we had the room from 12 PM to 4 PM and they were running around clearing our plates as we were taking the last bite. By 1:15 PM they had packed up all of the food from the chafing pans and were rushing us out the door by 1:45 pm. The food was pretty good, but the service was worse than terrible. I would not host another gathering here and I would not recommend Elaine‘s for a gathering to...
