The Historic Stone House catered both our wedding and rehearsal last month and I can't say enough about how amazing they were to work with and how much our guests raved about the food!
We worked with Christine and from our first contact she was amazing. She helped us coordinate a menu, including customizing starting from one of the buffet packages add and removing until we loved everything. She coordinated a tasting for us where we made another change and she smoothly kept everything organized. She helped us coordinate linens and even took the time to drive to our site to see how the set up needed to work in advance. The weekend of the wedding Christine treated us all like family. She got to know our families and the wedding party, took the initiative to arrange flowers at the reception to cover some AV equipment and looked out for us to make sure we got enough to eat and even brought us drink refills! She is truly above and beyond going a million miles and hour to make sure every detail is perfect!
Now to the food. For our rehearsal dinner we had barbecue and for our reception we did a variation on one of the standard buffets adding prime rib and chicken oscar. The Stone House traveled to our site and did all the set up for both meals and after the meals were served they did all the clean up and packed away leftovers. Both meals were fantastic. I thought the barbecue was going to be unbeatable until dinner the next night! :) My dad is a bit of a prime rib fanatic and he liked it so much he took was still talking about it the next week! The food was so good that the guests who were staying on site were eating leftover dinner for breakfast both mornings. The groom and I seriously had leftover ribs and mac and cheese for breakfast the morning of the wedding and it was AMAZING! At the end of the weekend we both agreed that if we were starting all over we would have gone with The Stone House again and planned the same exact menu!! (And we'll be visiting for many dinners I expect over the years!)
If you are planning a wedding (or any event really) I can't recommend Christine and The Historic Stone House enough. The food was amazing and the service was so far beyond my expectations. I really felt like every detail was taken care of and I didn't need to worry about anything all weekend. (Well, except managing to get my hands on leftovers since there was kind of a run on the refrigerators...

We stayed here Saturday and Sunday night, on September 21st and 22nd. We stayed in the Stewart Room. It has a great historic feel to it. I particularly enjoyed the creak and clank of the hardwood floors as I clawed my way over them. Unfortunately, the rooms are also the size of a gel-tab multivitamin. I have stayed in single person hostel rooms that were larger, in hostels that were better adorned, for 1/15th the cost.
Speaking of cost, you will be paying around 540 per night for these three tiny rooms. With that, you get no real amenities save for a continental breakfast, which was one of the worst I've had. With it you get some muffins, fruit, bread, cereal, and a few odds and ends. What struck me, however, was the milk, and juices. They, more than anything, are a metaphor for this Inn. They come in old fashioned glass carafes... which are topped with saran wrap to keep them sealed. That is to say, the whole of it is high class, but the details are ghetto and held together with cheap plastic.
This is really poignant when you get to the Restaurant. The food is actually quite excellent. The menu is relatively typical, but some of the dishes have sauces and preparations that give a new take on it. The staff is where the Stone House Inn really falls short, however. The wait staff is some combination of rude, incompetent, or inefficient; my drink was empty more often than not. If you want a properly mixed drink from the bar, as well, good luck. Two out of three bartenders were unable to make a basic whiskey sour, and the seemingly homemade sweet and sour mix was horribly out or proportion (WAY too much lemon).
The Stone House Inn does have an interesting gem in it's parking lot in the way of a smoke house barbecue stand, however.
Another major problem with the Stone House Inn, depending on your take, is that it attracts a great many bikers. On weekends, there is almost a nonstop flow of them, and the noise is nearly deafening. Our room was in the old portion of the house, in the Stewart Suite, so our single paned windows didn't block out many of the Harley noises either.
On the whole, this Inn has a lot of things going right for it. However, it lacks in the finer details, yet commands a pricetag worthy of a place that has everything...

Our package included a biking/river excursion. Upon arrival, reception was not knowledgeable about details of the package. Additionally, she misspoke about the included lunch that was supposed to be provided after the excursion. We never got it. To her credit, they did admit the miscommunication and comp’d the value.
Our first night there we intended to eat dinner at the stone house. We arrived a little after 8pm only to be told the kitchen was closed although the posted time for closure was 9pm. We were given an alternative restaurant 10mi away. It was a dump and the chicken I was served was so undercooked it was still clucking.
Our bed didn’t have a top sheet. It had a jacuzzi with only 2 towels for the room. Weird.
The next day we went for our excursion. It doesn’t include anything that you couldn’t get on your own. I’d recommend avoiding the ridiculous stone house upcharge and scheduling through the various services Themselves.
Returning to our room that day around 4:30 we found it had not been cleaned. Again that night, kitchen was closed due to a refrigerator issue.
Later that night around 11pm the stone house fire alarm starts going off. We went outside to discover only one other couple was staying there and no staff at all were present. The other guest called the fire department and after 15 minutes the alarm was off. We were advised there had been something burnt in the kitchen despite it not being open to the public for the last 6 hours. The other guest told us he had been exposed to food poisoning the night before after eating at the stone house.
It’s hard to believe the poor service we received with only 2 rooms being occupied that weekend. We weren’t surprised to find that when trying to check out there was no staff to assist. We had to call and the person who answered directed me to a voicemail. 10 minutes later someone arrived and apologized their systems were down. Be prepared for a 15+ minute checkout at the stone house.
Although the people were nice. We will not be back. Management...
