Quick and Dirty: if you like BBQ, this is an excellent option. Its not like “Famous Daves” bbq, this is like REAL BBQ. Like the👏🏻real👏🏻thing👏🏻.
Situation: We were out of state visitors staying at Oglebay but looking for another “party of 10 including kids” food option that wasn’t overpriced Resort food. Luckily, we googled the area and this popped up, like 7 min down the road. Perfect.
We got there around 4:30, they close at 6 on Thursday and they are the type of establishment that makes food in the morning and goes till they run out. So we didnt have full options available but were able to grab brisket, pulled pork, a bit of ribs, macaroni and cheese, and all the sauces.
Plus ice creams. Like $50 worth of ice cream. No regrets. And some fresh Kombucha.
Meat: was outstanding. Kids liked it, adults liked it. Meat was soft and delicious, fell off the ribs, seasoned but not overly, just the right amount. Id order any of them again, probably ranked RibsBrisketPulled Pork but thats just my natural preferences towards bbq.
Sauces: Normally theres always a clear winner for me, but honestly i was a fan of all 4 options.
Pioneer- was an excellent tangy bbq. Not too sour, not bitter at all, but i felt more on the Carolina style side than the sugar honey bbq sides. Which, i love tangy bbq and its one of the best Ive had on the road. Loved it.
Appalachian - Ive never seen that before and i thought it was really good, if you like horseradish. It wasnt a thick sauce despite the mayo base description.
Apple Butter- This one surprised me. I normally am not a fan of sweet bbq. Its ok, if i have no other option, but too often places make it thick and too sweet so its just lathering my meat in sugar. However this was DELIGHTFUL. It wasnt sickly sweet, it had a really nice apple note at the end and overall probably one of the nicest “sweet” bbq sauces ive had.
Mustard - it was good, very mustard-y but thats the point. What i liked is it advertises spicy but its spicy in seasoning, not atomic buffalo nuclear orange mouth on fire spicy.
So. Yeah. We loved it. Went over well for the whole group. Would probably do 2lbs next time instead of the 1lbs for our group size so we had more leftovers.
Also, had the on tap Pina Colada Kombucha, it was delightful and effervescent. And the ice cream sandwiches were extra boujee, like “ginger cookie with lemon ice cream”. Check them out.

Read moreThe best BBQ I have ever had and I love BBQ. I was traveling on a business trip with two other team mates. We started looking along our path for a good restaurant to stop at. The hangover BBQ came up and it was 3 miles off of the beaten path. The service was friendly and very helpful with what was popular to eat. I ordered the brisket sandwich, jalapeño sausage link and Mac and cheese. Absolutely the best tasting brisket I have ever had. My two team mates agreed that it was their favorite also. Wheeling WV is two hours from our business in Ohio. I will make that drive on the weekend to eat there again. One downside is all carryout with a couple picnic tables outside. Don't drive by Wheeling without...
Read moreOh lord this place is good! My husband and I took a drive down from Pittsburgh for the day to explore Wheeling and we’re so glad we stopped at this gem. The husband and wife team that own the place are the nicest people we’ve come across in a long time. You can tell they’re passionate about what they do. I had the chopped brisket sandwich with a side of mac and my husband had the rib plate with collard greens and cucumber salad - all fantastic. The traditional bbq sauce and the apple butter were perfect. We also got a couple Leona’s ice cream sandwiches for dessert…delicious. The owner also let us try a fried rib which changed my life lol. If you’re in Wheeling go check this...
