First time at Whitehouse Inn. The decor is cute, but our food came served with a pesty fly and a gnat--and we were not eating outside. Having checked their website menu beforehand, I decided on the Maryland Crab Cakes with their own specially made Caper Sauce--but no Caper Sauce on these cakes, so I inquire, "Aren't these supposed to come with your own specially made Caper Sauce?" "Oh yeah, let me check on that." Waitress comes back, "Sorry, we are out of that today." "What?" I didn't think I heard correctly. "No sauce at all? The menu states that this comes with your house made Caper Sauce." I ask why she didn't tell me when ordered that there would be no Caper Sauce. She said she didn't know. Waitress brought cocktail sauce (naming it hot sauce) and two lemon slices. The price thing is unheard of: 3 different price quotes for 1 item!?! Their website lists Maryland Crab Cakes dinner for $18.99. Paper menu sheet lists at $20, but Tuesday evening at 5:45pm: $24 whopping big bucks, a $5.01 increase and that was without (yes, you know) the advertised Caper Sauce. Waitress did mention price update card on table (see photo). The garlic mashed potatoes were tops in flavor, broccoli: flavorless, so 1 for 3. Our server offered little empathy and no financial compensation for the incomplete menu item until we requested something. The young server had to ask the bar tender who gave $1.20 off. Thank goodness my friend was good company which made for a nice evening.

The service here is terrible. We were here the evening on July 5th. We were put on the waitlist and was told it would be about 20 minutes. After waiting over 30 minutes, a worker approached us and asked if we had a reservation. We explained that we had been waiting for about half an hour and were next in line, as we had just seen the people ahead of us get seated. She rudely informed us that it would be another 40 minutes before we could be seated and quickly walked away. It was clear she had no idea about the waitlist, and when we reiterated that we had already waited 30 minutes, she had her back turned and rudely repeated, "Well, you’ll need to wait 40 more minutes". It was evident she wanted us to leave to avoid working, and we felt very unwelcome. We returned to our car and called for an update, and they seated us immediately. We spoke to the manager about the rude employee, and while they offered a free appetizer, it did not excuse the poor attitude we experienced. The rude employee kept giving us glares while we were seated, and when she was with two other girls, they were pointing and laughing at us. The food was good, but inside the restaurant was extremely loud and couldn’t hear ourselves talk.

The service at the bar was good, and the employees all friendly and helpful. Other diners were friendly as well. There were a few quality/craft beers available in addition to the standard options. I ordered a med-rare burger and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were very tasty but the burger was way overdone and dried out. If I go back I may try ordering it uncooked and see if it comes out juicy delicious. The other ingredients seemed ok, so it's a shame it died on the grill.

Not family friendly at all . we have been going to this restaurant since I was a child . It was my grandmothers 90th birthday . And from the very start it was very bad . Was told from my family member that attitude over the phone to make the reservation was ridiculous. It was like the fact we called the place and she had to answer the phone ruined her day . I was one of the last of the group to arrive at the restaurant, and when I did … I found my 90 year old grandmother and the rest of my family including my older parents standing outside in the cold. This past Saturday it was extremely and weirdly windy . They told me the hostess in the front said she didn’t recognize our reservation, and only when EVERYONE from the group arrived we could come in and sit down . Let’s just say when I walked in to find out the problem she acted like she didn’t have good hearing . Bc as soon as I told her the name she wanted to act right . My mother looks at her confused and says I told you that name 4 different times ??? She snapped at my mother and says , oh I guess I didn’t hear that !!!! . So much more that continued to ruined the evening. Food was over priced and they have nothing but children with no customer service experience serving . Ruined a very important day , and a lot of feelings were hurt . Considering 15 minutes after we finally found our seats , (which we had to find bc the same hostess speedwalked to back room like she was again mad she had to help us in any way , ) there was another reservation seated behind us with 4 people at a big table . Waiter says can I get u guys started with some apps?? They say oh it’s okay we are waiting on 4 more 🤔. Right in front of our faces it was extremely disrespectful bc she made my family stand outside till we “all arrived” … thumbs down /. Also I called the restaurant to try and explain this to someone and get some feedback or peace of mind .. they failed to call me back so I had to come on here . ...

I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my recent experience at Whitehouse Inn to warn others, especially families and people of color.

From the moment we arrived, the service was noticeably poor. We were denied seating on the patio due to a "private party"—but that party never materialized the entire time we were there. It felt like an excuse, and sadly, it set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Despite arriving well before other diners, it took an unusually long time just to get our drink orders taken. Other tables, seated after us, were not only attended to quickly but received their meals before we even saw our appetizer. Our kids were also given kids menus, but no crayons or activities, which are typically standard. We shouldn't have to ask for that or that gummy worms that never made it to our table that the menu mentions.

Unfortunately, the pattern of neglect felt far too deliberate to ignore. It seemed like we were being treated differently—and not in a good way. I strongly suspect that what we experienced was racial profiling, and it's incredibly disheartening in 2025 to still face this kind of treatment at a family restaurant.

If you're considering Whitehouse Inn, I urge you to take this into account. Service should be consistent and respectful for everyone, regardless of background. That was not our experience.

Update: we didnt feel like family and your server seemed well seasoned not newer. As I stated we requested the patio not back room. Also a couple that arrived 20 minutes after us was served their meals before our onion rings even arrived. We should have just walked out when we noticed the weird vibes! You can say what you want as far as your standards, but my experience was not up to those standards! My children didnt even get crayons without us asking or the gummy worms on the kids meals. The server gave another kid their worms. So it...

I don't leave reviews often, but after an almost $100 meal and a not great experience I feel compelled to.

I'll start with the good: the prime rib was amazing and the french onion soup was the best I've ever had.

Now onto the reasons for my review:

the server asked us if we wanted any appetizers. One person at the table ordered an appetizer and then she just walked off without asking anyone else if they wanted anything (which we did). She actually did that 2 other times about refills, too. First bloody mary that was ordered was good. The second one that was ordered 20 minutes after the first was so spicy (peppery) that no one at the table could drink it. Five out of six of us ordered french onion soup. When the soup arrived, someone at my table mentioned that, years ago, they used to provide scissors with the soup to cut the cheese. The server said "oh we still have those." And then walked off. No asking if we wanted them and she definitely didn't come back with any. The ahi tuna was a joke. It was almost $30 and so small. It was overcooked and the seasoning all over it was SO spicy. I ended up wiping all of it off with my napkin just to be able to eat it. When the bill came, I noticed I was charged more for my meal than the menu stated. I asked the server about it and she said " that's because of the mac and cheese." You can't upcharge people without telling them they are being upcharged. Restaurant 101. I would have picked something else had I known.

Unless you are going there for the two things that were good that I mentioned earlier, save your money or go elsewhere. I won't be back, which is sad because that soup...
