Mariscos Cheli — Restaurant in Wichita

There's a great (and too long for this review) story behind how I accidentally wound up here, but I sure am grateful to the food gods that I did.

Cheli is a super nice human being, and having a shop in Wichita that is this specialized is rare. They usually don't last, but he's been here for almost a decade, so that should tell you something.

It's Mexican. It's Mexican seafood. It's regional Mexican seafood.

While I've never been to that specific region on the mainland, I've been to nearby Baja. Without doing a bunch of research, but based on experience watching coastal cuisines for 30+ years, I'll vouch for its authenticity. The shrimp ceviche was fresh, bright, flavorful, and with generous portions. Just lovely overall.

I will definitely be back to try the whole roasted fish!

I just had lunch here and what a disappointment. We walk in to loud music playing on a jukebox which isn't a big deal except I can't here what anyone is saying including our server. The menu has all the prices scribbled out so u have no idea how much anything is? So I order the Jumbo grilled shrimp platter and get these little salty shrimp served with cold rice and Coleslaw on top of my rice. The person with me got grilled tilapia and had the exact same issues with there platter. We just dealt with it and when it came time to pay omg! 46.40 before tip, for our two salty lunch size meals! we did have 2 sodas as well. I will never go back to this...

Good food high cost I get it's " sea food " but it's definitely priced as if it were fresh, which it's definitely not, it's frozen. I think what makes it lack is the service area as much is the fact I like consistency if what I get when I eat at the restaurant doesn't match when I pick up to take home it makes me a bit upset I know when I eat in I definitely get a much healthier serving of seafood verses the sad servings when you pick up for take out. If you can't fit the full serving in the Styrofoam cups, (which at the prices), you should be able to provide better take out packaging for...
