First- I love Flat Pennies. Great very friendly service. (I did have a real crisis, lost my phone, ID, C.C.s. & asked to use a phone. Met with a cold response, but finally after begging, i could use one.) Good job going from table to table to see if we are happy! wish hours were extended. Sometimes I'm too late Food is wonderful, sweet potato hash, eggs cooked to order. But most choices are HEAVY & high calorie. Add a lighter fare, not so complicated.
Some of your policies are 'odd' & not customer service oriented. The sign scribbled on front door with "food prohibitions" is kinda off-putting- Have NEVER seen a "no" list at a door! I didn't read all, but i will & suggest resolutions later whether you want input or not. Ha! *Customers are trying to TELL you something if they BYO! Instead of prohibitions, improve what you offer. Example - SERVE BETTER COFFEE! IT'S BREAKFAST! (If you use French Roast- stop! Also it's awfully weak.) -Alternative REAL maple syrup. You can sell tiny bottles of real syrup. I know syrup is expensive for you. I want to eat Easter breakfast with you. What are "EGGS OUR WAY"? Just Say what you mean.. No shared plates? Instead, charge $$ for sharing, typical of other fine restaurants. "no substitutions" ? If you anticipate a big crowd, & hope you do, FOCUS on Customer Service, be flexible for a Happy Easter.
I sound very critical but I'm tired of losing businesses in Willington! I...
Read moreThis place is mine and my boyfriends favorite secret breakfast spot. I say secret because normally it's much quieter than the others that are local like Toast (Which is way too crowded to be enjoyable in my opinion). The food is excellent and the staff are so caring, friendly and upbeat. Every time we try to get something different, but today I asked the chef to make me last week's special French toast (bourbon, brown sugar and cinnamon 🤤) which they happily did and my other half ordered the Mess Madness which comes with a slab of their homemade cornbread. Which brought him right back to the cornbread his grandma in Indiana made for him when he was growing up. He told one of the waitstaff when they came to check up on us how amazing it was and to thank the chef. A couple minutes later they came back out with an extra slice for him, which made him so happy and nostalgic for his childhood. One of the chefs even came out to check on us, and we had the chance to thank them personally for taking care of us. The food is great, but the personal touches, and at home atmosphere is what keeps us coming back at least once a month. Thank you Flat Pennies staff for a great experience every time...
Read moreWe came here for breakfast with some friends while visiting the area. The draw was the train theme for one of our kids and a diner feel, but the food...wow...fantastic. We came with a big group including 4 kids on a Sunday morning, and without a long wait they were able to seat us out of the deck which was nice. We had a variety of food, but a few particulars, my son had pancakes which were massive. My daughter had beignets that were part of a special/seasonal menu, that she completely finished and I had something called Mess Madness, which was basically mix of bacon, sausage, home fries, peppers, onions, eggs over easy and hollandaise sauce...superb. I would have thought the large group would have slowed things down, but we didn't wait any longer than if we were half the size. Great job! It's right off the highway so even if you are just passing through, worth the stop. Parking was not difficult although they were pretty full when we got there. This place is right along some railroad tracks which thrilled my son...so we won all...
