My first time here though this place has been open for months. All the pictures of food I've seen from here looked great, yet I just couldn't manage to get here. For that I will be kicking myself for some time to come. A picture speaks a thousand words, and I should have listened. I came here for breakfast on a cold and drizzly day, and it was the best thing I could have done. From the moment they brought out the chips with salsa and refried beans on the side I knew this was going to go well. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and it looked and smelled great as soon as it landed in front of me. It begged me to take its picture. Now looks aren't everything, but in this case it lived up to its picture perfect self. The corn tortillas in this were tender, the black beans were steaming hot and the rice was tasty. I left nothing on the plate. Service here was very good and attentive as my coffee refill was well timed. Basically there is nothing here to prevent me from coming back. Good food, good service, and decent prices. I'm giving it four stars for now as I'd need some repeatability to upgrade it to five. I'm thinking this will happen sooner rather than later.

Great place to get vegan mexican food when driving late at night down south from the humboldt redwood state park. Most other restaurants were closed after 8pm. This was the one of the few places in willitis that was open after 10pm. We ordered the veggie tacos and ordered the salsa roja and salsa verde enchiladas. The waiter understood our vegan preferences and customized the enchiladas to our needs. He even mentioned that the refried beans are made from canola oil and not lard. The rice was unfortunately cooked with chicken broth, so we opted to substitute it with refried pinto beans instead. They offer free chips and salsa (3 different types + refried pinto beans which was very tasty). They do charge extra for the rice + beans combo (or beans and beans combo in our case) from the enchiladas. Overall, excellent customer service and would definitely visit again if we go through willitis.

The employees at El Chicano again are very nice and attentive! The food is excellent — juevos rancheros, various salsas, eggs, crunchy hash browns, plump tamales, perfect nachos, Mexican hot chocolate, coffee, et cetera!!! The coffee and Mexican hot chocolate are served in beautiful mugs on top of a napkin on top a little plate and with a tiny stirring spoon. Chips are served upon arrival with a little cups of beans and salsa, and are replenished if desired. The pork tamal we ordered was perfect with the right amount of masa and a generous amount of perfectly thick chunks of pork. The green salsa on top was incredible!! The over-medium eggs were great! The hash browns were perfectly crunchy!! Their prices are wonderful !! Thank you!!! This is our third visit this summer. The next time we are up that way, we will definitely eat at El Chicano, in Willits, CA!

First off I'd like to say it is clear this place is trying to do something unique. But that being said everything about my visit was horrible. They are remodeling the restraunt while customers are present. We were a party of 7 and were seated next to open paint buckets and a set of car rims.i can only hope they were going to become decorations some how, and not there waiting to be sold on FB market place. We got a basket of chips and salsas, for 7 people. When I asked for a second order the young man seemed annoyed. So I told him to charge me for them. He then took our drink order nothing complicated. Just sodas and waters. Then the waitress came to take our food order. We sat chipless and drink less. Until our food came. Which were all wrong. You get a choice of refried beans and whole black beans. Everyone ordered refried. And all plates came out with whole. So they took them back and changed the beans. But unfortunately by that time the other food was cold and unedible. Then the chips and drinks finally arrived. My son in law found a hair in his food. And couldn't eat, my wife's cheese enchiladas were cold and had solidified. There are no clear rolls as to who's job is what. The owner did apologize for not checking on us. And asked who was our server. To which I had no definite answer. The young man who I think was a busser was the most helpful. Despite there vision of having food that is clearly not the standard Calimex choices that we all know. Everything else in this place is poorly executed. I paid the bill most food was left uneaten. I really respect restraunt staff it is a hard thankless job. I was really looking forward to leaving a hundred dollar tip as I like to do around Christmas time. But this was so horrible I could barely bring myself to leave the standard 20 percent. If you have a smaller party or they figure out what they are doing then this place would be ok. But as far as the cleanliness. A health inspector would have...

Food is really good. The 2 waitresses were very nice, but over worked for the number of people in the restaurant. We had to ask to be moved because the booth was filthy. Turns out all their booths are filthy. Our waitress did say she would wipe the table, but had to get an order out first. She got the order out then cleaned the table. We complained about the almost black edges and corners of the table cloth, but they don't change table clothes during the day, but truthfully it seemed as if they had not been changed in weeks. My guess, the dirt will never come out. No reason to say anything else. Food was great restaurant grossly dirty. The score averaged to a 3 star. Next time we'll order food to go. If... My suggestion to this restaurant is, burn all your gross tablecloths -if your not going to clean em ya shouldn't have em-, hire a few more people- different staff bus tables so your clients are not waiting so long for someone to take their order, and clean the front dining room- I questioned if the front of house was this dirty what does the back look like. A little more...
