If you’re allergic to onions, this restaurant isn’t for you—because they jam onions into literally everything, and yes, that includes onion powder too. Sure, onion powder is better than chunks of onion, but why must you put onions in everything? It ruins what could be an amazing restaurant. Onions in tacos, pickles, sauces—onion overload, everywhere. A great chef brings love to the food, not an onion fetish. And what if you have little kids whose taste buds aren’t ready for onions? What if you have friends visiting from out of town and you want to spoil them with a nice dinner—only to discover they’re allergic to onions? Guess what? It’s in everything they serve here, and asking the kitchen staff to leave out the onions or prepare a dish without them is like pulling teeth—they simply won’t do it. Here’s an idea: don’t make everything with onions. It’s like the chef believes it’s not gourmet or high-end unless there are onions in it. Let’s be real: not everyone is on Team Onion. According to one Redditor—in a heartfelt roster of despised foods—onions were called out specifically: “Onions. It is their prevalence that is most frustrating.” “I hate onions I HATE EM.”For onion haters, it’s not just the taste—it’s the fact they seem to be in everything, turning otherwise good meals into instant deal-breakers.why are they in everything if a large portion of people don’t like them?” Clearly, the onion overload can make a meal feel ruined. The food here was mostly average, and the menu doesn’t impress. Same with the wine list—okay, but nothing special. The staff was very good, and the setting—with private rooms and two bars, one regular and one wine—was beautifully done. But to truly fix things, the kitchen needs a new chef, and maybe then this place could move past its relentless...
Read moreMy partner and I had the most exceptional dining experience at Covey Restaurant in Wilmington, NC. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere that set the tone for a beautiful evening. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly their thoughtfully curated menu.
I couldn't resist trying the Smoked Quail, which did not disappoint! The dish was perfectly balanced and expertly cooked. The Butterbean Ravioli was equally tasty, showcasing their commitment to using only the freshest ingredients. My partner had the grilled swordfish, which was a wonderfully meaty fish, well prepared, in a tasty but subtle sauce that highlighted rather than overpowered the fish. We sampled the cheesecake and lemon bar for dessert, both innovative and flavorful takes on classic desserts.
Their craft cocktail menu also provided delicious, unique options, and their capability with a classic martini was equally impressive. Their wine program is also remarkable for the area, with expert staff and a wide-ranging selection of beautiful wines.
The impeccable service of the staff elevated the entire dining experience. The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the dishes they served. They went above and beyond to ensure our seamless and enjoyable experience. The food was exceptional, and the ambiance at Covey also added to the overall charm. The restaurant exudes a contemporary yet cozy vibe, perfect for an intimate dinner or a gathering with friends and loved ones.
Covey is a true gem in Wilmington, NC, and a must-visit for anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience. We can't wait to return and explore more of their menu. If you're looking for a beautiful evening out for dinner, Covey is...

We went to Coveys ILM after the marriage of our daughter. Given it was a special occasion we were looking forward to a great dinner given the beautiful building and grounds. We indicated to the server of the special occasion. From that point on everything was downhill. The dinner and service were bad to say the least starting with the server who often forgot request’s or didn’t follow-up on them. The meal when it came out over a six-minute period for the six of us ended up being cold by the time all plates were delivered versus delivering all plates with multiple assistants quickly. The groom was the last to be served so we waited for his plate to be delivered prior to starting. My special sandwich was a tasteless lobster roll complete with bits of shells. The steaks were not cooked to order and were well done. The biscuit’s served in the beginning were not mixed well where you could taste salt and flour as the prominent flavors. A side salad was not delivered and was requested again to the server. The focaccia bread could have been used as a hockey puck. Several requests were made for a coffee that was ordered in the first five minutes. When the server was made of aware of the problems, he seemed very nonchalant and indicated apologies nor did he try to bring in a manager. Amazing there was not any acknowledgement of the occasion in addressing the problems. No management presence in the restaurant to help the server handle the situation more effectively. The question is, was this a bad night for the restaurant and a bad memory every anniversary going forward for the couple, or an incompetent cook and with pathetic management at the helm. I vote the latter. Needless to say, would not recommend and...
