Looking around the room as we ate dinner gave us the feeling that we were part of some special rare club. Things to know: not only can you bring your own beverages you can also buy drinks from the restaurant to enjoy in the parking lot as part of the local tailgate while you wait (no outside drinks inside). No advance reservations just get on the list when you arrive and they'll ask you what your car is and where you're parked. We were there Friday of homecoming weekend for the local college and had about 25 minutes wait at 6:15 pm. Pretty much as soon as they seated us, they came to our table with the cutting board of ribeye for us to indicate steak size. You get ribeye cut and cooked to order, a baked potato, bread and salad bar and option of adding the cooked onion which we did. Took our drink order and did have a couple of decent red wine options for us to pick from and then said to help ourselves to the salad bar. Salad bar is a lazy Susan of which the center had a ton of freshly prepared iceberg lettuce and the most beautiful sliced large heirloom tomatoes. On the outside of the lazy Susan is pretty much everything that you can think of for an old-fashioned salad bar including pineapple, cottage cheese, two kinds of olives, carrots, shredded cheese, croutons, cucumbers, and much more. There were three or four dressings to choose from as well as things such as bacon bits and anchovies. Everything was extremely fresh and quite tasty. About the time we finished enjoying our salads are entrees were brought out along with a stick of butter and little cartons of sour cream for our baked potatoes. Everything was absolutely incredible. I'm not a big fan of onion however the way they prepared the onion made it very tender and flavorful. The steak is quite possibly the best seasoned and best cooked steak I have had in a very long time. And that says a lot as we frequent places such as the Angus Barn, Ruth Chris, and Sullivan's in the Raleigh area and this was probably better than anything that I've had at those more expensive establishments in a long time. Yes, it is a long drive from the Raleigh area but it was well worth it. Two meals with the added onion and a bottle of wine came to right around a hundred dollars. I had a 8 oz cut and my husband had a 12 oz cut. Another thing I'll share is the level surface of the staff. They were working their butts off, moving rapidly turning tables at a decent pace. The place seats 48 as best we could count from our corner spot. A large group came in after we were seated and while we were at the salad bar they asked if they could relocate us to the back corner in order to put several tables together for the group. That was more than fine with us, they even asked me if it was okay for them to relocate my purse and phone which were at the table and I said yes. When we got back to our new table my purse was on my chair and my napkin was neatly folded with my silverware and cell phone sitting on top. I thought that their request to relocate us was handled in a very professional manner and did not put us out in any way. Plus it gave us a better view of the...
Read moreI drove to Wilson today from Zebulon and tried the Ribeye Steak Sandwich. The sandwich was ok not the best I have ever had. I handed the owner a 20 dollar bill he gives me change never says thank you hope you enjoy your meal not one word. If he was more friendlier and appreciated us supporting him in these bad times one would think he would say thank you for your business and hope to see you again. I was going to take my employees about 15 the next time he has the truck set up but the way I was treated today, we will go somewhere else for lunch. The least y'all can do is say thank you for your business and come back but you couldn't say that! Bad customer service and if it continues, I can assure you he won't be selling many steak sandwiches. Would not recommend eating at the food truck. Also, the supposedly steak fries were burned cooked too long I ate one and threw the rest away. We decided to try the Restaurant and see how the service and food is. We went last Thursday night and will never be back. First of all the cook/ owner I was told, he never smiles he never said welcome please come back. Here is the biggest health issue I have ever seen in any restaurant. The cook comes to the table and cuts the steak. He then Takes all the cut steaks back and they are sitting on a wooden tray with blood on the tray that is never wipes off. This cook with NO Gloves seasons the steak and places it on the grill. He takes his entire hand places it on the entire steak then places it on the grill. Then with no gloves , didn't wash his hands he proceeds to place his hand that was just on the entire raw steak on an entire loaf of bread. He then cuts the bread no gloves no washing of hands and places it on the grill. He then no gloves no washing of hands opens baked potatoes and touches plates on the counter going to customers and these plates are contaminated as well. This is what's called meat contamination being he has put his entire hand on raw steak no gloves not washing his hands and places his entire hand on an entire loaf of bread the plate you are eating from and baked potatoes. I hope nobody got sick or food poisoning due to this cook not following proper handling of raw meat protocols. I'll be contacting the appropriate people in the meantime I wanted to update this post hoping nobody gets sick due to this cook clearly not following meat and food preparation as the Health Department...
Read moreWent here once or twice with my dad 20 or so years ago. The taste and level of service has not changed since then. I happened to be in the area today and stopped in with two others.
This is a "no frills, no nonsense" locally owned and operated steak house. There is no menu, all they have is ribeye steak, baked potato, salad bar and a "baked onion" on request. They stick with what they've got because it works. This place is built and setup for great service, great tasting food and good table turnover. It is a smal place, with only 9 tables inside.
The cook comes to your table with a cutting board and a whole ribeye. Their steaks start at 8 Oz and go up from there. He cuts it right at your table and then goes to grill to season and start cooking. Their salad bar may be small, but has plenty of items to make a great salad. There's no 20 foot long salad bar here with bright lights showing everything off.
Your best option here, if you really are a steak eater is medium rare or medium. Anything over that, and you're wasting your and the cooks time. There were 2 servers working in tandem taking care of the customers. The service was friendly and quick. The servers aren't here to mess around. They're not here to be your friend or to flirt with anyone. They're short quick and to the point.
To those looking for the big chain, "have you dined with us before? Then welcome back" type bouncy bubbly servers, this is not your type of place, please go elsewhere for your steak needs. If you're looking for fancy dining like you get in the expensive steak houses up north and in the big cities, don't come here. Their beef is locally sourced and has been for as long as I can remember.
Their beer is cold, the steaks are hot and fresh, and for what it is, it cannot get any better. Ribeye is not my cut of choice, but I'll say I ate a "10 oz" and wanted more.
If you want a cheap "steak" look elsewhere. This place has something that works and it works well for them and...
