I can't remember the last time I would have thought a restaurant of any level would deserve 5/5. I have eaten here with my wife 4 times since I came to Winchester, and every single time it has been perfect. Unbelievably fast, super polite and professional wait staff and bussers, the food is high quality and maximum flavor with generous portions, I've never had to ask for a drink refill, the ambiance is traditional and relaxing, and the price of the food should be 3 times what it is. I have eaten Tex-Mex all over Texas, had tons of authentic Mexican cuisine from food trucks and best kept secret spots in Chicago ... El Carreton annihilated all of that. This is the best Mexican restaurant in America. If you show up, and want a safe bet, get the El Carreton Special fajitas (steak, chicken, chorizo, shrimp), the Steak Vaquero (yes, its cooked medium, trust the plan), the El Jefe Burrito (chicken, onions, chorizo, pineapple, cheese, etc) or the traditional tacos. The beans and rice here are even worth praising. I swear they use chicken broth or something to cook that rice, its next level. Anyway, if you come here, you most certainly will have the same experience. Don't disrespect this place by undertipping. This place needs to stay like this as long...
Read moreBest part about my trip to Winchester. My team was doing some research in the area, we are down from Canada.
I took them here. My daughter and my wife. I had the El Presidente. I figured this would be a sample plate. Holy Hell. It was a huge amount of food, full servings. Tasty as all get out. Filed me to the top, but I couldn't stop eating. My wife and daughter also as happy. the kicker at the end, under 50 bucks including tax. That is off the charts amazing value for the money. Easy best meal I have had in a restaurant in months
Bravo. I wish I could say I'd be back in the area. But I likely will not. But to advise anyone. This is worth it.
PS your counter gent, the one that studied in Toronto Canada, thank you for the conversation. That personal service, is another thing that will bring people in. Your people, they worked with a sense of urgency that is...
Read moreReally good food and fast friendly service. It does get crowded on weekends and dinner time weekdays but clears out by 7pm or so. The fajitas are great whether you get chicken, shrimp, or steak. Taco salads have a lot of flavor yet are on the smaller side. The taco salad shell tastes wonderful and not like soap as many others do. Be wary of any dish labeled ‘Chipotle' as it could be super hot with gobs of onions. I have noticed servings getting smaller here, a trend I hope reverses itself. The chips & salsa you get when you first sit down are tasty and drink prices are reasonable. Chicken entrees often come with rice only, no vegetables, pico, or beans. If you order those added get ready to pay a large upgrade price. Sneaky. Queso sauce here is excellent but not cheap so again, if you think it’s on the house you will be...
