The grinders that were so good in my review posted five weeks earlier in mid-September, were surprisingly bad this mid-October. The Food Network's Alton Brown, always said something like 'all chefs have bad days.' This must have been such an occasion. Burned bread and oddly sliced into one quarter/three quarter pieces, we all agreed these were not like the ones we had before. An off night.
Sophia's grinders last night as takeout were delicious. One hot ham with provolone, lettuce and tomato; one Philly cheese steak with mushrooms, peppers, onion and mozzarella; one veal parmesan. It's iffy trying a veal parm grinder where you haven't had one before but theirs tasted really good. The Philly cheese steak was also very flavorful and made just the way it should be component wise with everything melding together. The compelling scent of the hot ham coming from the bag overpowered the others and proved to be really well made. We'd reorder any of these again. The gal on the phone said her favorites were their meatball and turkey for those looking for another choice.
A quick Plan B brought us here today after a nearby place was closed for vacation. The food and service were both good and the casual atmosphere was what we were in the mood for this Sunday. The buffalo wings had crispy skins, moist meat and a soft burn to their sauce. My Chicken Florentine with the choice of a vegetable side over pasta was very satisfying. The shrimp basket with fries was fair and for what it was should not have cost more than my entrée. We bought a meat lovers pizza to bring home. We shared a slice before leaving and liked it. A generous amount of four meats - hamburger, pepperoni, sausage and bacon and cheese. Average Greek style crust. Nice waitress working hard as the only staff, still took the time to find out where a couple of wines were from when we were ordering.
Surprising to see how many negative reviews are posted for this restaurant, though the majority seems to be delivery issues. Hire a new driver or no longer offer delivery service. Another is wait time on popular nights though these comments vary from quick to long service. Patrons shouldn't have to wait too long for drinks, food or checks. Short of help those nights, perhaps, or poor staff. On preparation issues, the food should be replaced if it's not as ordered to the point it's being sent back.
Thinking about this, I should add maybe 12/14 years ago I brought home three takeout meals from here - two meatball dinners which were not successful, but that was quite awhile ago. It may be why it took so long for me to frequent this eatery again, but today's experience was a pleasant one and it's worth visiting.
Four desserts are available (all cakes), panini, wraps, grinders, hamburgers, salads and baked pasta dishes. Beer and wine....
Read moreWe have been here several times in the past and loved it. We went once after the pandemic died down and we didn’t enjoy our food like we had in the past. We decided to try it again because we were near and needed dinner. As we were walking in, my daughter noticed there were several flies in the window and flying around the restaurant. We counted at least 7. That grossed us out a bit, but it was late and my kids were very hungry so we stayed. We ordered 3 small pizzas and a plate of stuffed shells. One pizza was fine with the right amount of sauce. The next one had hardly any sauce at all. My son wanted a white sauce pizza and it was an oily mess. The pizza use to be so good here, but now is just mediocre and not consistent. We must not be the only ones to think this because the table next to us left taking some of their food, but left nearly a whole pizza behind. The stuffed shells with meat was literally one shell that you could tell had been in the freezer too long and it had a piece of sausage and a meatball. That cost over $15! For one shell! The dish is called stuffed shells, not stuffed shell. It seems they had ran out and just gave us what they had. They could have mentioned that and we would have gladly ordered something else. It was tough to pay that much for what it was. The server was sweet and we had no issues with that. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. This use to be a good...
Read moreWill no longer be ordering from once amazing place. Ordered over the phone and picked up and our grinders were completely wrong. Chalked that one up to the girl answering the phone not understanding us. Problem was semi solved, realized upon getting home did not receive the tiramisu. Cut the staff a break and didn't call about it.
Today I ordered on Doordash and was so disappointed I called and spoke to the manager here about my order. Girl who answered the phone was very nice. Confirmed you can see where I asked for no lettuce, among other very very simple very polite requests.
Apparently all I get for my food being wrong yet again, is a sorry we are really busy it is the way it is. No lettuce isn't that hard. Hot or cold isn't that hard. I understand not adding more toppings that you cannot charge for but olives and pickles Sophia's? It's a rough economy, but rough enough that I pay for a whole sandwich and you can't include olives and pickles? Or substitute the cheese? When you do if I call for pickup?
Maybe take yourselves off Doordash because this much extra in their fees on top of not receiving the simple subs on orders.....not very conveinient for the customer.
Value every customer. Maybe you need to remember your quality before the...
