Thursday, I hopped on the bike and followed Old 24 out to Woodburn Indiana to try Greg's Getaway.
I had so many different food items! 🔥 I got started with fried mushrooms. They are somewhere in that hush puppy and golf ball size. The breading was crunchy and didn't fall off after being cut. These are so big that I cut them in half and then used a fork to dunk them. I had both blue cheese and ranch, which I'm not sure is a regular thing, or just so I could try them both.
As I was working through those, Louie came out with a few wings for me to try. I had one plain, one with bourbon sriracha, one with Bobby sauce, and one with Alabama white barbecue. They were medium, pretty standard sized. Done crispy enough to get a good crunch but still juicy inside. The bourbon Sriracha one was a bit of a zinger. Definitely solid though. There was bourbon flavor, but it wasn't overwhelming. The Bobby sauce is kind of like a peppery barbecue. Not much heat but some spices in there. The Alabama white was thin and definitely interesting. I would try a batch of those again. (Video with descriptions in my reels)
I couldn't decide between the weekly Thursday special egg rolls (the flavor changes every week), which happened to be Cuban this week, and the teriyaki burger. Luckily, I was able to try both. The Cuban was stuffed well and certainly enough food as it usually comes as a set of three and a side for regular ordering.
The teriyaki burger definitely had a nice fresh flavor. They must have made the burger patty after ordering, or very recently before my order. The whole thing was covered in teriyaki, so it had plenty of sauce without a big blob falling out. Something cool they put on the teriyaki burger is small cut sauteed onions and fried cheese curds. The curds almost make the sandwich too tall. Snack ahead and take a few off before you try to pick this beast up. Next to the burger was a nice pile of crispy, flavorful fries. I could definitely taste something different, and when I asked, I was told they use beef Tallow instead of regular oil for fries. So excellent! If you haven't tried fries like that, come get some.
The inside isn't super decorated besides the moose and deer mounts, tons of liquor and specials signs everywhere, but the one picture on the wall I had to ask about says challenge survivors and has Polaroids of people. If I remember the details correctly, they have you eat one fresh, smoking hot chicken wing and then you're not able to eat or drink anything for 10 minutes. I'm not too deep into stuff like this, but if you are, come give it a try.
There's a pretty nice fenced in back patio with concrete tables and better than expected chairs. If it's a little chilly but you want to be outside, there is a building with a sitting area off the back porch with a propane heater. I liked the outdoorsy...
Read moreI only go on Wednesdays for the specials on buckets of Busch Light and traditional wings. The service has always been alright, some are friendlier than others. Mixed drinks are pretty stiff. You can get your wings grilled, which I have done every time. It takes forever for this process though, I've never gotten my order in less than an hour. And there is a risk of getting them burned, which you can either deal with or send back and wait another hour. With all that being said, I personally will not be getting my wings...
Read moreNice small town bar. One of the owners is a dummy. We where going here on a Saturday night for Karaoke and it as around. He also owns a trucking company. He as so cheap when he had his Christmas party on the same night, that he took the main bartender to help serve at it leaving a waitress / bartender to work the whole bar by herself. That's serving food, drinks, clearing tables, and making drinks behind the bar....
