I'm writing this review the next day as my wife and I left with a dessert to go and wanted to try it before I wrote a review.
I have never been to Angelina's before and the experience was pretty great overall. When we walked in the host staff were friendly and helpful and escorted us to our table pretty quickly. I noticed the bar had a very nice clean set up and in the main dining area there was a paino player creating some nice tunes that really tied into the vibe.
We started out with the cheese bread and marinara dip and for dinner I ordered the pesto pasta and my wife the alfredo penne. Both dishes with their handmade noodles were delicious, we ate every bite. As it was my birthday dinner the waitress gave me a chocolate cupcake that was mid at best. I was greatful as I didn't expect it but it seemed very dry and bland. I had a little bit of bourbon before the main course and had a glass of wine with the pasta. I had asked the waitress for a recommendation and she chose well. The food gets a 5 star
I briefly mentioned before that the atmosphere was beautiful, the decore was very modern and the bathroom was very clean and tidy. Overall 5 stars here.
As far as the service goes I usually like to name servers for doing great work but here my wife and I agreed we wouldn't. Between the 2 of us we have a combined knowledge and experience in restaurants of 20 years. We felt the waitress was lacking in a few areas. She wasn't very attentive, very soft spoken and hard to hear in a pretty loud environment and even though we piled our dishes at the end of the table to make it easy for her to pre-buss she didn't do so until the very end when we received the bill. My wife at one point noted " she wished we had the other waitress at the table next to us." She did the very basics and for that I give the service a 3 stars.
Now, putting that aside, we still had a great time, the food was amazing and we tried the triple berry cake we ordered togo, this morning which kept well and was packed with flavor.
I recommend this place to anyone in the area...
Read moreWe've been to a handful of the popular Italian restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and we were pleasantly surprised that Angelina's was as good as, if not better than, most of them. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of downtown parking and congestion, I highly recommend going to Angelina's.
Our server was friendly and the atmosphere was romantic. However, it was the food that pushed this restaurant near the top of our list.
Knowing that we would get free bread, we ordered the Caprese Salad and put the pieces of mozzarella and tomatoes on top of it. This was a delicious pairing. The mozzarella was soft. The basil pesto and balsamic reduction complemented everything perfectly. My wife orders a caprese salad anytime it's on the menu, and she said there's a chance that this was her favorite one.
Due to recommendations from our server, we ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese and Tortellini Al Formaggio. We wanted dishes that had different sauces. We ordered the "Spicy" version of the Spaghetti Bolognese (you can order Spicy or Mild) and regretted it. We often cook with "hot" sausage and put hot sauce on many things, but this dish was too spicy for a pasta dish in our opinion. That being said, the other flavors of the dish were excellent. We'd order again but just the "Mild" version. The Tortellini Al Formaggio on the other hand was perfect. Nothing we'd change about it. The crispy prosciutto was similar to bacon. The Alfredo sauce was maybe our favorite part of the entire dinner. We'd absolutely order this again.
We ended the night with the Chocolate Chocolate Cake. This was probably the most disappointing part of the dinner. The frosting was actually very good but the cake was too dry. We didn't finish all of it. We wouldn't order it again.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience and plan on going back to try more pasta dishes. Two drinks, an app, two entrees, a dessert, and a 20% tip was $125 which felt very reasonable given the quality of food. This is a...
Read moreI have dined at Angelina’s twice. They came highly recommended from friends who dine there at least once a week. The first time was great, the risotto was undercooked but everything else was so good I wanted to give them another chance! My second experience was recently and quite unfortunate. We were enjoying our drinks, the atmosphere, and what we thought would be nice evening out. When our appetizer arrived (we ordered the mussels) it had little flavor and was very sandy/gritty tasting- not properly washed. I informed the server, who was very nice and said he would bring us another appetizer and send the owner over. When the owner came over she was clearly irritated that we did not like her mussels. She was not apologetic, she made excuses and was not friendly. To lighten the conversation I told her how much I enjoyed the food last time and that’s why I was back and brought my father for his birthday. She did not receive my compliment as I thought she would, still seeming not happy with us, nor did she say thanks for coming back. No acknowledgment of us celebrating a birthday either! I was extremely taken aback. She did take the mussels off the bill and brought us the bruschetta instead. I will say our entrees were delicious. I had the tortellini, and my father the lasagna. We ordered dessert-which was good. They did not offer a birthday dessert. Being a business owner myself I know how important it is to keep your customers happy. I don’t feel like she tried or really cared. Sad to say I will not return to Angelina’s Kitchen or...
