Update: I am sorry to report that with the change in ownership, there has been a significant decrease in the quality of Hartzler products. The ice cream is less flavorful, someone iced over, and far less creamy. There appears to be a problem with the process, so I can no longer recommend this as a necessary stop in Wayne County.
Previously Published Review: Hartzler Family Dairy has delectable ice cream, bottled milk from a time long thought forgotten, and a seasonal selection of eggnog that people will travel one hundred miles to sample. This dairy is from the heart land, and the Hartzler family should be proud to offer the taste of Ohio to every customer.
To make matters even better, you don't have to feel bad about the cows at this place - family farms supply the most important ingredient to this dairy: dignity. The methods of production are the best part.
Treat your taste buds without the unfortunate moral dilemma, and you might even be able to call...

We’ve been drinking Hartzler Milk, Eggnog and other products for over a decade and have always been happy even though the prices are a bit steep, like 300% to 400% more than their competitors. However, recently, like the last 4 weeks that I’ve bought their Milk, 2 - 1/2 gallon bottles each week, they tasted tainted upon opening. I contacted the retailer Churchill’s and they said to contact Hartzler directly to which I did. A supervisor at Hartzler said to contact the retailer that it wasn’t their problem so I call back to the retailer who said it’s not their problem. Don’t waste your money on products that have the appearance of quality with no integrity backing them....

I was really surprised that a company who advocates the health benefits of their dairy would add CARRAGEENAN to their products. Hartzler won't list their ingredients on their product labels, but if you ask, they will tell you that their chocolate milk and ice cream contain CARRAGEENAN. For the past four decades, scientists have warned that the use of carrageenan in food is not safe. Animal studies have repeatedly shown that food-grade carrageenan causes gastrointestinal inflammation and higher rates of intestinal lesions, ulcerations, and even malignant tumors. Ice cream and chocolate milk should be a treat to eat, not a...
