Gemato's Wood Pit BBQ — Restaurant in Worth Township

I ate here when this restaurant newly opened. There are wood logs outside, but the ribs had taste and texture like they were boiled. Many other people give good reviews. Perhaps the cooking technique and training is more dialed in now. No problems with the building or servers. The food, service, and decor is okay.

I haven't come back, and I am giving the lowest rating because I strongly suspect the cashier stole my payment card information. According to my records, the incident happened on September 25, 2017. I paid around lunchtime or later. I am providing this information so the restaurant can know who was on shift.

Here is what happened: The restaurant was mostly empty of customers. When I went to pay, there was one small group of customers in front of me, and maybe one or two still eating at their tables. The person in front of me had their money processed on the counter. I handed my card. The employee was about to swipe it through the reader to my left, but stopped, made a frustrated look, and told me to wait a minute. He reached deep under the counter, to my right, and made several long swiping motions. I could hear the plastic sound of my card. He finally came back up to pass my card through the reader.

What was that for? Let's say the system has to be rebooted. You don't switch a card into the hand that needs to press buttons. You don't press buttons and switches by making long back-and-forth motions. You don't unplug and plug a cord by doing circular motions. A card doesn't need to be primed by some kind of pre-reader device. And if there was a backup reader under the counter, then there's no need to read again with the top device that supposedly stopped working.

When I returned home, I received a notification that my card was fraudulently used that afternoon at a gasoline station not far from the restaurant. Aside from the restaurant, I never paid at any other shops in the area before. I don't live near the area. And my online purchases are not from stores in the area. It is too much of a coincidence. I have to assume there was a card skimmer under that counter. Perhaps placed deep so other employees wouldn't see. I doubt the customer in front of me had a hidden wireless skimmer, because my card barely ever works when placed directly on contactless systems. This is a finish on the grill type of bbq joint. Nothing seems like it actually cooked on the pit but finished on the pit. The ribs definitely give chili's vibe and thats ok.....if i went to chili's. I am not for leaving bad reviews just because but this was not worth my hard earned money. I got brisket(not brisket), rib tips, beef ribs, and some tips. The brisket is not brisket at all and there is no flavor and very rubbery. The beef ribs are a joke as they are just fatty with little meat and mostly burned and unedible. The ribs are definitely boiled or baked before they touch a pit and you know from tge lack of smoke flavor. The tips where cooked good but everything and i mean everything was spolied even further by the one note sweet bbq sauce that they drown everything in. You usually do that to cover up mistakes in your food and boy was there alot of mistakes. At the end of the day i spent $75 on fathers day for some food i cant even eat. It amazes me how many people think this is good barbecue, makes me wonder what was they eating before they found Germatos. I will continue to go to Mission bbq or smoque bbq for real slow cooked ribs and brisket because i dont know what they are...
