Went to this place last night and found myself really disappointed. My family and I like to go to this place to do karaoke (I don’t actually sing) and have drinks whenever we can get together and spend the night out. We always talk this place up and have never had a bad experience here before. Last night the bar owner decided to stew behind the bar about a drink container that was brought in from the outside which one of our sober companions had brought to keep hydrated. This individual and myself were the two sober individuals who were serving as DD’s for the night. I also ordered a water because I don’t drink sugary beverages and the food here is terrible (Karaoke is the only attraction to coming here in my opinion). Anyway things took a turn when the Bar owner decided to address the situation indirectly. Instead of approaching the individual who brought the problematic water filler container into the bar and ask them to remove it… she approached the karaoke dude and told him not to let our group sing. This was a really odd way of handling the situation considering nothing was ever said about the container. As a matter of fact the owner and waitress then made the claim that we weren’t ordering enough food and drink when most people who were sitting at our table had ordered drinks and food except for myself and this other sober individual with the drink container. I always bring tip money to this place even if all I drink is water which I do most often times I come here. I’m not there for the terrible food and sugary/alcohol drinks, I’m there for the fun and to make the night out happen for my friends and family who are drinking. I do have a few recommendations if they would like to make more money at this place. 1) make better food 2) serve a decent coffee/tea for those DD’s who may come in and 3) don’t berate your guests before they have finished the night for not “buying enough” especially when the bill’s have not been closed out and tip money hasn’t been left...
Read moreI used to love going to Speedboat for their karaoke nights, but after tonight I won’t be coming back. I met my sisters and friends at this bar at 9:30 pm. By 11pm we had ordered a bucket of beers, several appetizer plates, plus more beers and cocktails. Then a member of our party was told after singing that we weren’t going to be allowed to sing anymore because the owner (Dawn) was upset that our table wasn’t ordering food/drink. Apparently she didn’t like the fact that a bottle water was brought in, so instead of addressing it and asking for the water bottle to be removed, she told the karaoke DJ to not let us sing. We ordered more drinks when our waitress came by and asked her to please let the owner know that we are ordering. She reaffirmed the bar’s position that they have to be making money and that the water bottle is not allowed. And then she proceeded to argue with me when I offered to purchase more food and drink and put the bottle way. The owner also came up to explain their stance. It was clear she had been stewing over the presence of this bottle though she had never said anything to us about it before. She never once apologized, and was incredibly condescending. It was one of the most inhospitable interactions I have ever experienced in a dining establishment. I was so shocked. And with a very sad heart, I have to say goodbye to Speedboat. Now I know how unwelcome my family and friends...
Read moreReally disappointed in Speedboat's ownership tonight. Me and my sisters were regulars at karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays. We often bring large groups to support the business and sing. Tonight we had ONE person in our party who wasn't drinking, and we were bullied out of the bar.
We ordered beer, cocktails, buckets, and food and we were informed the owner didn't want us to sing because one person in our group wasn't ordering any drinks. She is sober and only drinks water. She brought her own water bottle which we later learned isn't allowed, and yet they never enforced this rule on her, so we were unaware.
After politely asking the owner directly why it was an issue when the majority of the table was placing orders, she said "I have to make a profit."
So, I guess if you are a recovering alcoholic, a pregnant woman, or the DD, don't bother going to speedboat for karaoke, because they only care about making a profit off of you. Prush's and My Place in Wyandotte have much better customer service and food, and appreciate their patrons. I won't be bringing anyone here again.
(Also my draft beer was so skunky and warm that I couldn't finish it, but I was willing to pay...
