Food is "ok".......really the issues were "other" - 1) complimentary Valet parking....OK, the ticket suggests a TIP amount....so no really complementary. The truth is this: the BARN will not provide proper parking (ie lines, paving etc) so the contract these "parkers" to park your car and you basically pay their wages via tips. 2) The other issue is the manager (who was dressed like she was watching TV at home) decided to bust my chops on something in front our group of people. Who needs that? All in all, not "special enough to go back" and yes i have been there many many times.....I've been occasionally going since the mid 1980's.....done now.....the unique-ness doesn't outweigh the issues listed above........
:Rebuttal to owners comments IF you are reducing the parking by that much, than your occupancy loading should go down......if your occupancy loading has increased (due to outdoor dining) than you'd better take a good long look at your 1 user bathrooms, i'd bet you'd need a lot more bathroom accommodations than (2) single users, and once that happens you better check that septic capacity. But a lot of restaurants are pushing the envelope with bathroom accommodation requirements and don't even try to say "it's grandfathered in", because it is no longer the case once you increase the occupancy loading with outdoor dining (unless you have addition bathroom facilities that I did not see)......do you really want people to check town regulations....i mean I could, I'd start with Health Dept I guess, then Zoning......then the whole ADA code, which is a real can a worms you want no part of.....be careful what you wish for, a lot of restaurants are "painting the edges of the strike zone" with the liberties of outdoor dining, some play by the rules and others take the chance and see what they can get away with......long story short; valet parking at a place with paper menus is silly.....long story short....people just want to enjoy their night out and not have their...
Read moreIf you’re thinking of bringing your family here—don’t. I came in with my young child expecting a friendly, welcoming environment, but instead, we were met with an unbelievably rude attitude from the owner. I’m a doc that doesn’t always get to sleep post call, and despite the food being less then my favorite, it was a close location for an outing w my child and friends. There was absolutely no warmth, patience, or courtesy you’d expect from a place that calls itself “family friendly.” I’d strongly recommend taking your business somewhere that actually values its customers. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for a kind and inclusive atmosphere.
Edited in response: I absolutely understand the importance of maintaining a comfortable environment for all guests, and I do not take that lightly. That said, my child was simply being a child—expressive, curious, and full of energy. While I understand that not everyone may be used to or tolerant of that, I was actively doing my best as a parent to manage the situation.
As someone who works hard daily in a high-stress profession, I value the moments I get to spend with my child. It was disheartening to be approached in a way that felt more like criticism than support (the table next to us actually gasped at your words and treatment towards me), especially in a place that claims to welcome all families. Inclusivity includes children too, even when they aren’t perfectly quiet.
I shouldn’t have to feel like I’m confined to my home or scorned simply for wanting to enjoy a meal out with my family. Dining out as a parent shouldn’t come with the fear of judgment or embarrassment for doing something completely normal—raising a child in public.
I appreciate your acknowledgment of my profession, but I hope moving forward, there can be more compassion extended to parents who are genuinely trying their best—because parenting doesn’t come with a...
Read moreWe have gone frequently the last several weeks. And every situation is a different explanation. All good up front. Then tonight I order the same salad I ordered last week which was perfect and this week not so much. So someone, not the server, comes out to say oh we are sorry this is the way it is. No modification. It was cooked over done. However last week it was perfect . So we finished and then the sides I ordered that I didn’t touch yet. They came back and took from me and said they took them so they wouldn’t charge me. Are you kidding me. Hopefully no one else for my sides!! We have told Eli each time there is a problem but he doesn’t seem to care. So good luck to Eli.
In response to the owner’s daughter Jessica-
We have been in Wyckoff over 30 years and came frequently to the Barn for casual dining and relaxed fun over the years. Out of the last 5 weeks we have come 4 times. Only one of those times was without issue and that was last week. This same salad ordered last week- Ribeye steak was absolutely delicious. The steak nicely sliced, rare on the inside and a plentiful portion. The meat served on the salad last night was not even close. You saw pieces rare on the edges? But the whole rest of the piece was brown and looked like steak shavings. There is no way that was a rib eye sliced steak. You can rationalize all you like but 1/4 times is not great odds. We come early on purpose to avoid other issues. The way you handled the situation and your current defensive reply is not accurate and unprofessional. Hopefully you take this criticism and implement some “quality...
