We stay in Wytheville on our way from Florida to Pittsburgh every November. We looked up restaurants on Google and Grayson was highly recommended. I can see why. It’s definitely a “locals”diner, because it felt like we were visiting family. I could swear someone’s mom or grandma was in the kitchen cooking. It smelled amazing just walking in the door. We arrived at 6:30pm and had finished our meal by 7:05pm. My husband ordered breakfast, which is served all day. He said it was delicious. I wasn’t that hungry, but I cannot pass up fried green tomatoes when I have an opportunity. They were perfect, crispy seasoned outside and soft, slightly tart inside. I also ordered the pintos and cornbread with onions on top. The cornbread muffin was moist and slightly sweet. The pintos and onions were the absolute BEST I’ve ever eaten. Such a simple dish, but so good! My son ordered a cheeseburger and fries. He finished the whole thing and said it was fantastic! We also ordered some take-out for our family who was arriving later, and that too was ready for us when we finished our meals. The coconut cream pie was so good, creamy, topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut and a crumbly graham cracker crust. Some of the best food I’ve had in a long time, and so welcome after 12 hours on the road. The service was quick, friendly, and attentive. The food was served fast and once finished we paid our check the register. You can feel the love and passion for good comfort food in everything about Grayson Restaurant. Please support this business so it will be here when we come...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Grayson Restaurant on August 5, 2024 for breakfast. The food was enjoyable however, the service was borderline offensive. Our server was hurried with us at each visit such that long before my husband was even through with his polite comment or request, she was already turned and several steps away- quite rude. Furthermore, we asked for our hashbrowns well-done, yet they were nearly raw instead. When i asked if real butter was available, she responded, "we got that" and pointed to the hydrogenated oil spread packets on the table. She was much more polite and interactive to the other guests we observed. Perhaps she doesn't like outsiders as it is very noticeable that we are from New England. Lastly, one of my eggs had eggshells in it, and certain portions on the breakfast plates were small, so the value was not quite respectable. Be aware that you will not receive a paper bill at your table. You will only be able to know your total cost once you arrive at the register to pay and they punch your order into the POS system. There will be an additional charge if you use credit...

Good luck getting a drink refill. Left sitting with an empty coffee cup until the meal almost concluded and then I had to get her attention because she wasn't checking. Second visit she did this out of only 2 visits.
Brought the food and left the necessary condiments behind and had to get those.
Repeated instructions back for the bacon several times and still brought it put wrong. Claims, "I didn't cook it", but she sure didn't even look at it when picking it up. Had to be sent back while others dining at the same table sat with cooling food.
Portions are tiny for the prices but they want to charge you extra for using your debit card.
Food is barely passable. Pancakes had to be cut with a knife and even then didn't cut through completely for the outside 1-1.5" of the pancakes. Inside/middle want like that.
Overall, would not recommend this restaurant unless I really didn't like the person asking.
Just thought of this with the check options below. Watch entering amd exiting the parking lot if you do go there. It's on a bad curve. I lost a friend in that...
