I was looking forward to this trip so much. I splurged (spending nearly $600 per night) because I wanted the convenience of being right on the beach and I was looking forward to being able to bounce back and forth between the hotel and the sand with a 6 year old and a 1 year old. I booked the third floor double because we needed two beds and I figured the views would be lovely. Unfortunately about 13 days before our trip, my husband badly injured his ankle. Knowing the hotel didn’t have an elevator, he called the hotel to see if there were any more-accessible options. I should have known based off that initial conversation that this hotel does not actually care about hospitality. ||When he called, the gentleman he spoke to basically acted confused by the fact that he even called. Told him there were no other options for 4 people and did not make any offer to us to change our dates, refund the deposit (or part of it) if we wished to cancel, or even reach out to another guest staying on the second floor to ask if they would maybe be willing to switch with us. (I recognize that I did willingly select the third floor room back when I booked, but surely the hotel could have tried to help in some way.) We didn’t push the idea of canceling because we really wanted to take our kids on this trip and so my husband said basically, he’d suffer through the stairs, boot and all. ||When I booked this hotel, the website said that hotel guests had the option to use amenities at the nearby Viewpoint Hotel, owned by the same hotel group. After my husband hung up, I expressly said to him “Even if the beach is tough, we can always go over there and use the pool for a bit. I’m sure that will be easier for you.” ||So we go. We check in. My husband in his boot and me with two kids carry bags and bags of stuff and a pack n play up two flights of steps, no one offers to help. The beach is down a flight of steps and between the steps and the sand, it just proved quite difficult for my husband to do. So the next morning, I ask the gentleman at the front desk about using the pool at the Viewpoint and he tells me they are no longer doing that because it’s busy. I explain that my husband is injured. That he tried to get down onto the beach earlier that day but that it was just really too difficult for him. Is there anyway he could look into this for me and possibly make an exception given the circumstances. He says he would. Next time I see him shortly after, I ask about it and he tells me “they haven’t gotten back” to him and says he will call and asks if there’s any particular time we’d want to go. I tell him we’d go right now, or later, or tomorrow. Any old time! It would just be nice to be able to allow my husband to have a tiny bit of recreational enjoyment with our kids on this trip, so you let me know what would work. I go about my business and check in with him again shortly thereafter. He tells me “they said no.” I looked at him and with surprise said “seriously?” And then walked away. ||My husband decided to hobble downstairs to talk to him. Asked if he could speak to the manager, his reply was “I’m the manager of the property” and implied that there was no other person we could speak to. And then continued to tell my husband “I didn’t tell your wife this, but that pool is adults only anyway.” This whole interaction left such a poor impression on both of us. And if we were staying longer than three days I would found someplace else to stay and contested the fee with my credit card. ||The rest of the time there this gentleman did not say a word to me. He didn’t say hello, goodmorning, nothing. When we left, I dragged all that stuff back down two flights of steps by myself, making 4 trips. And again, was offered no assistance by anyone. I understand that this is not part of the services offered there, but you’d think knowing the circumstances, this gentleman who saw me coming and going, struggling repeatedly with two kids and lots of stuff mostly alone the entire time might have offered to help out simply because he’s human. Plus, imagine my surprise when I discovered myself on our last day there that about 3/4 of a mile down the road on Long Sands Beach there was an accessible entrance to the beach complete with a ramp and beach wheelchairs. I was flabbergasted that this guy didn’t think that was something he should have shared with me during the whole pool conversation. I really was just in complete disbelief over his apathy. ||Now, I won’t say everything was bad. The location of the hotel was great (minus the power lines passing right directly in front of the room that are conveniently edited out of their photos) and the room was clean. But the bathroom was tight. The finishes were updated, but by no means luxurious, and the AC blows directly on you (a minisplit would be a good investment). Things were rusty and none of the doors shut properly. For $600 a night, I expected a little more. But the restaurant was decent, and the staff did a great job keeping the hotel clean. The common fridge full of ice for guests also was quite convenient given that my husband was icing his ankle several times a day. ||At the end of the day, I wanted to LOVE this place. And if the manager wasn’t so callous about our situation, I would probably be leaving a totally different type of review. But at the end of the day there was a complete lack of hospitality that makes me apt to say I would never recommend this...
Read moreQuite possibly one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I have never been one to complain or send food back or write a review but this was too egregious not to share.
Went here for lunch with my wife and kids. The kids both ordered a lobster roll and my wife and I ordered the haddock tacos to share. When the lobster rolls came out, one looked okay (not great by New England standards), the other barely had any lobster meat inside and a piece of shell was found within the meat. Mind you, the lobster rolls were $38, and maybe had the equivalent of $10 of meat. As I said, I'm not one to complain but for $38 I had to say something. The waitress was excellent. She was calm, courteous, and professional. She also agreed, as someone who claimed she has worked there for 5 years, the amount of lobster was not close to the 4oz. they claim to put in each roll. She kindly took the lobster roll and said she was going to tell the kitchen. I'm figuring okay, they'll just make another one and put more meat in it. Wrong, she comes back and says that they have a policy that they will not take food back (e.g. if someone doesn't like the food they ordered), so she asked if we still wanted the original roll or just take it off the bill.
At this point we should have just got up and left but my other kid had already eaten his lobster roll so I asked the waitress if I could speak to the manager as I wanted to ensure my other kid could still have their lunch. After a few minutes a gentleman comes over and just pokes his head around the table and says, "just order whatever you want." Confused, I looked at my wife and said I think that must have been the manager. But what does "order whatever you want" mean? Is it on the house? Of course I'll order whatever I want, I'm the customer and I'll pay for whatever I order but this didn't solve our lobster roll dilemma. When the waitress came back I asked her to please just make another lobster roll.
Meanwhile, my wife and I started to eat our haddock tacos, which were actually quite tasty until I took my second or third bite and ended up with a bone in my mouth that I luckily noticed before swallowing. After further inspecting the fish I saw another bone sticking out and I say, okay...well I'm not going to eat any more of that. I now let the waitress know about the bones in my fish and at this point she's absolutely horrified but is still handling the situation well. She goes to tell the manager now about the bones in the fish. This time he comes over and apologizes for the fish bones but doesn't say anything else about how he could accommodate us or make it right. He steps away, I hope to go back and speak with the kitchen staff. The waitress comes back with the other lobster roll, which has a little more meat than the first time but again, for $38, this was a poor excuse for a lobster roll. I ask her to take the fish tacos off the bill as I didn't want to chance something else going wrong.
The bill comes, $98 for the two lobster rolls, two sodas, and a side of fries. No sign of the manager again. No mention of taking care of the mess of a meal. Add a $20 tip for the waitress because she did a good job as it wasn't her fault, and boom $118 that I may as well just flushed down the toilet. And my wife and I left hungry. What a waste. I was actually shocked they didn't try to do more to correct this. The meal should have...
Read moreLocation is great. Food was good. Our waitress was wonderful.
However we will never return to this establishment and will be sure to recommend to all to stay as far away as possible.
We had a party of 7 that was willing to wait in order to sit together . As this arrangement was being discussed between the very helpful hostess and myself the "manager" physically pushed the hostess out of the way. Literally shoved her to the side and aggressively confronted me claiming that I was being rude to the hostess and was no longer allowed to speak to her and to deal with him directly. In shock at what I just witnessed I explained to him that there was no need for me to speak with him as the hostess was very helpful and accommodating and had taken our request. He then went on a long tirade about how he "has been in this business a long time and he respects the people he works with ". Kudos for that however I failed to see what that had to do with anything, why he was so angry and worked up and felt the need to be physical and "explain" this to everyone around.
It really was a very weird experience that came out of nowhere.
I attempted to remove myself from the situation and return to my party and he actually followed me down the street all the while spewing aggression and hatred.
Truly a very unhinged individual.
As this is one of the only restaurants around, and at the pleading and apologies from the wait staff, we decided to stay and actually had a wonderful meal.
For the remainder of our visit we sat and watched as this "manager" wandered between the two dining locations constantly confronting staff, aggressively dealing with customers and just generally creating a very surreal and hostile environment.
Such a shame too as the food was good and the staff was attentive.
Oh well.
Perhaps they will reply to this review. If so I'm sure they'll have some explanation of how I was in the wrong, and how this "manager" was right. And that's fine. I, as well as all those that witnessed his aggressive diatribe know the truth.
And...
