Zebulon has already outgrown this place.
The sushi is NEVER sushi. For starters there’s never any actual sashimi or nigiri or any raw seafood… ever. At best it’s those bland pre-made fake crab meat sticks with vegetables and cream cheese rolled around in rice. Disgusting. It’s the kind of “food” that the morbidly overweight relatives you can’t bear look in the eye while they’re CONSUMING (I mean eating) at “rock-n-roll sushi” will scarf down before boasting about their “exotic culinary adventure” on every social media known to man.
Everything else is repetitive, super-saturated with moisture & MSG, over-salted, cheesy, and SOAKED in grease.
The staff has this obnoxious tendency of standing over you with the obvious intention of seeing how much you leave for a tip while you write it and/or checking it in front of you right after you write it down. I have crossed out and lowered my tip amount right in front of them for this odd and rude behavior several times to no effect. It’s a buffet so I’m always vastly over-tipping for nothing but my water/soda refills to begin with anyways.
I could go on… the point is that while this used to be “good enough” back when Zebulon was in the middle of nowhere and the locals “didn’t want no fancy weird asian food to mess them up”, they could be easily replaced tomorrow.
If anybody wants to open an even marginally improved place next door to this one for the same or lower price but with better asian buffet standards that are closer to par, Wang’s Bistro will go out of business in the...
Read moreWhile this is my go-to place for a chicken and broccoli with white sauce OR shrimp and broccoli with white sauce, I never sit inside. I always order my food over the phone and just pick it up! This means I really can't tell you what the sit-down service is like. I can, however, tell you that the food is good! They're pretty reasonably priced! They're friendly enough (at least the lady at the counter usually is)! I have heard that doing the buffet is not quite as pleasant of an experience as my to-go ordering process is! I've never sat down to actually test the waters on this so, I can't tell you for sure! I can say this, I have called other places to order the Shrimp and Broccoli or Chicken and Broccoli with White Sauce and they sounded as if I was speaking in Alien language🤣, "We no have",...which means they don't have it on their menu...So, not every restaurant will have "Chicken & Broccoli or Shrimp & Broccoli w/White Sauce"! It's like the one you get normal (with soy sauce, just a different sauce)...no soy sauce and it tastes absolutely amazing!
If you have not tried Chicken or Shrimp & Broccoli w/White Sauce, with a side of white or fried rice - whichever is your preference, then you are missing out...big time! Try it sometime! You'll be...
Read moreI give it four stars because it does a good job at being what it is. I would guess that many reviewers give it 2 or less because they're just expecting it to be more than it claims. They're a small-town Chinese buffet with reasonable food. Example: any battered food that is put in a sauce on the buffet is somewhat water-logged after a while in the pan. The beef is not tender. That's just the way it is. The cuts of meats used aren't premium. I've sampled many Chinese buffets all around the South and specifically Raleigh, and I can say that this is on par with pretty much any of the smaller ones. Ones like Crystal Palace and Hibachi are just in a different league (with more buffet selections and extra things like a grill or fresh sushi), and this one shouldn't be judged against them. Wang's has a basic sushi array, probably made that morning, and all the typical buffet items of a smaller Chinese buffet. I love the shrimp dishes, which are good if you get them within 10 mins of being put out. I've also been there... maybe ... 10-15 times, and have yet to have a rude server or mgr. Everyone has always been very friendly, and drinks are usually...
