Union Café — Restaurant in Tashkent

TERRIBLE experience from start to finish. After reviewing the menu I attempted to order and almost everything I ordered was not available - especially the iced teas.I finally found several items they did have and ordered: tomato soup, nicoise salad and a water for lunch. My waiter walked away and about ten minutes went by and no water/waiter. I looked around to find my waiter and he was leaning against the counter chatting with the man behind the wet-bar and completely forgot about my water. I got his attention and he brought me a glass of tap water (they do not sell bottled water). After attempting to order several iced teas - of which they did NOT have - I settled on a pot of hot fruit tea and a glass of ice. The soup and salad arrived at the same time. The soup was so thin and tasteless that I didn't finish it. The nicoise salad was nasty. The eggs were so old and discolored (look at the picture) that even after I removed them from the plate I was concerned that they were rancid and could make me sick. The tuna was not drained and oily and to potatoes were cold and hard - no doubt at least a day old. Nothing except the hot tea was fresh!! The tea was good, btw - and that was because I was able to speak with the man behind the wet-bar as my waiter clearly was NOT interested in serving me. Easy access from the main road, quite nice decor inside. Food: initially we ordered, "village breakfast", "union brakfast" and "shakshouka" and 3 coffee to be served together with meals. It took around 45 minutes for food to arrive. Shakshouka, probably, was the only meal prepared fresh, the rest was cold and absolutely not fresh. Croissant was at least 1 day old, boiled eggs cold from the refrigerator, fried eggs were overfried and also not really warm. Kids refused even to try above meals. Not sure, why it took so long, if everything was prepared way in advance. Pancakes were not available, had to order cheesecakes. It took again really long time for each portion. Kids finished them, but when I tried, they were also not nice at all, either a bit old cottage cheese or they were frozen and defrosted too fast, not sure. I went there for my honeymoon and tried this cafes food. The ambience is night, it’s cosy and warm especially in the cold winter. We tried Alfredo pasta and chicken sandwich. They were all right. But I tried this fruit tea and omg I have not had infused flavored tea so delicious before. I was so in love with it.
