We visited Bánh Xèo Cô Ba with relatively high expectations, as the restaurant has received a Michelin award. The setting is typically Vietnamese, though it lacks attention to detail, which isn’t necessarily a negative since many restaurants in Vietnam have a similar aesthetic.
As Bánh Xèo is a traditional Vietnamese dish, I believe it should be prepared with coconut and as little oil as possible. Since this is the restaurant's specialty, I expected it to be nearly perfect. Unfortunately, the Bánh Xèo we had was quite greasy and lacked any hint of coconut flavor. The whole time, I found myself wondering what aspect of the meal earned them a Michelin award.
On a more positive note, we also had the congee with shrimp, which was delicious, and the net lui was decent. However, the service left much to be desired. The staff seemed overwhelmed and did not respond well to our requests for more salad or rice paper. They also appeared stressed rather than welcoming or cheerful.
All in all, the food had its moments, but given the Michelin status, I expected a lot more, particularly from their...
Read moreWe found this place from a friend and being listed on the Michelin did not hurt. We came after the lunch rush and had the place mostly to ourselves. The food was exactly what was on the menu. We really liked the flavors of all of the top dishes so we ordered quite a bit. The bill was the highest we had spent here so far and thought it was worth it. I am not sure what others are talking about the Banh Xeo being oily or greasy. it's part of the deal. DUH! how did you think that batter would get crispy without oil? The flavors are all on point and the veggies, condiments and sauce were on point. The handwashing station out in the front was very helpful and I was happy to use it before and after my meal. I wished more places would offer it. I met the owner and we talked for some time and he was just as nice as can be and hope his business keeps thriving. Thank you for a lovely meal and great company. We will see you again next time we...
Read moreI was expecting a lot when I saw they have the Michelin guide. However, prior to eating, I saw disappointing reviews online describing that the food was oily. I got the best seller pancake and it was indeed crispy with a nice crunch, and the sauces complimented. But, the pancake was indeed oily and the staff didn't walk through with me what the accompanying sides were or taught me how to eat it until he saw me doing it wrong. Imo, it wasn't up to the Michelin guide standard and I had the similar pancake somewhere else, where it had way better quality and service. So yes, overall it was...
