We initially planned to visit another seafood restaurant, but this one was recommended by a local. As we were traveling to explore authentic local flavors, we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 8pm, and it was extremely packed, clearly a popular spot. At first, we thought we had discovered a hidden gem.

We weren’t sure about the ordering procedure, so after observing others, we grabbed a table ourselves. No staff approached us, so after 15-20 mins we walked to the counter to place our order. However, the couple at the counter (possibly the owners) kept pushing us away and pointing elsewhere without offering any explanation. We followed their directions and tried showing food pictures to the young men nearby, but they just shouted “No!” , “No!”repeatedly. It felt like they only wanted to serve locals who could speak Vietnamese, avoiding any effort to communicate with foreigners.

We returned to our table and tried raising our hands to get the staff’s attention and another 25 mins, but were ignored. One staff even looked at us and laughed, it felt humiliating. We didn’t understand why we were being treated this way. Fortunately, a kind local at the next table offered to help and called a staff member over for us. We simply pointed at the pictures and said “One” while holding up one finger, a quick and straightforward process.

We never intended to make anyone’s job difficult. However, the staff member who took our order was visibly impatient, even though we only ordered two dishes and the whole process took less than a minute. The same kind local then tried to place his own order, but the staff rudely refused and threw a tantrum (possibly because he had helped us, whom they were clearly trying to ignore). The local and his family then decided to leave. Before leaving, he kindly asked if we wanted to cancel our order too, as it was already around 9pm and he was worried we might face another bad treatments or other issues.

In the end, we decided to cancel and leave, the guy helped us to inform the staff who are cleaning the tables there. We came with excitement and an open heart, but left feeling confused and disappointed. This experience was not only unwelcoming but also disheartening especially it was our first time at Da Nang.
