Come here if you want fresh seafood. You can select your particular menu options from a variety of tanks and bins on the premises. You want razor clams? Go and indicate the weight by kg and watch them weigh it out. Food is delicious and served promptly and efficiently by attentive staff.
The grouper is fantastic - a large fish suitable for sharing among 4 people (along with other dishes). Our waitress steered us towards the sour sauce option rather than the one prepared 'like a traditional fisherman'. Not sure why - perhaps the latter is a bit more rustic than she assumed our tourist tastebuds would appreciate?
Steamed mantis shrimp are not as easy to eat as 'normal' shrimp but offer a sweeter flavor as a reward. Steamed live at your table with a can of beer. The waitress then thoughtfully shelled them for us.
Razor clams in pineapple are delicious, though seemed to be more shell than clam. Snails are tasty but a little tough. The geoduck is delicious. French fries are thin and crisp and served with salt and ketchup. Steamed crabs are good but frankly just more work than reward, even with the waitress helping to crack them all open for us!
Beer, soft drinks and water for drinks. The menu is expansive though not everything is in stock all the time - a good sign it's fresh. Not the cheapest meal you'll eat but if you're visiting here from some other country, odds are it will be a better deal for better quality than what you'd...
Read moreA real shame. We ordered the Pomfret 2 ways, grilled squid and prawn fried rice. One half of the Pomfret came out with the salt and chilli as requested but the other came out steamed rather than with tomato sauce as we had ordered. Our server, instead of taking responsibility for the mistake, initially just asked us if we would kindly eat this version of the meal despite the error. I explained this was not what we ordered and that ideally I would not pay for his mistake. He offered to take the fish back into the kitchen and to recook as ordered but I said this wasn’t acceptable as the fish would then be over cooked. After a lot of back and forth he offered 10% off the final bill. I reluctantly accepted this as service culture in Vietnam is just not the same as in the West and did not feel like arguing until blue in the face only to get nowhere. The salt and chilli Pomfret was delicious, we did eat the steamed version which was simply not as tasty. The grilled squid was very disappointing with absolutely no marinade or seasoning whatsoever as well as being very tough. The fried rice was very good. To top it off after we had sighted the bill with the 10% discount we paid by card and accepted a 3.8% surcharge. After reviewing the final receipt we realised we had somehow been overcharged. Expect a lot more from a place like this when paying this kind of money in Vietnam. A real shame as it would have otherwise been a...
