We found this restaurant on Google Maps, since it was one of the only restaurants in the vicinity with a rating over 4.5+ and over 400 reviews. Therefore we decided to try it out as it appeared to be a safe option. The food quality was really good and tasty, and the staff were very friendly and smiley.
Unfortunately, we seemed to be the unlucky ones to have a ‘bad’ experience at the restaurant. We arrived there at 7:45pm. We had a look at the menu which had most of the plates only in Vietnamese (which made it hard for us to understand what each plate was) and then 7-8 ‘Western’ plates in English such as Pizza, Pasta and some steak options. We ordered 2 Ginger chicken with steamed rice and our other friend ordered Shrimps. We also ordered French fries. 15 minutes after we placed our order, the waiter brought the french fries and informed us that actually they run out of chicken. We found this to be a little inappropriate as the restaurant should have informed us as soon as the order was placed and not when the first plate arrived at our table. There were also a few other innocent mistakes such as forgetting the soft drink we ordered. Finally, on the receipt there were some mistakes with additional items, but at least they asked us to check the bill and they corrected the errors once we pointed out that we did not order the additional items.
In general, we were disappointed with the service, although the staff was very friendly, they were not rude, but we just felt that too many mistakes were made.
Overall, I believe the quality of the food would ‘force’ me to recommend the restaurant, and I would like to believe that our negative experience was...
Read moreA Dong is a beautiful restaurant with a cozy, chilled atmosphere that feels like the perfect spot for a relaxing meal. The ambiance is its strongest feature, but unfortunately, the service and food quality don’t match the expectations set by its elegant setting.
My experience was disappointing from the start. While my friend’s pizza arrived promptly and tasted quite good, I had to wait a long time for my chicken, which turned out to be bland and missing the promised rice. So I spoke to the manager and requested a replacement with no problems 😀. I was surprised when receive the pizza it was flavorful.
Another downside was the staff’s lack of English proficiency, which made communication challenging. Only the manager seemed able to assist, and even then, the resolution didn’t meet my expectations. Additionally, the difference between medium and large pizzas was negligible, so it’s not worth paying extra for the larger size. And we ordered dessert and never arrived.
Given the higher prices, I expected a much better experience. Nearby restaurants offer more reliable service, tasty food, at a better value for money. While A Dong has a stunning atmosphere, it needs significant improvements in service, staff training, and food quality to justify its...
Read moreWe are a group of 12 ppl without any Vietnamese tour guide. Randomly found this place when we walked around looking for dinner. First, service. Even though they didnt understand english well & were struggling, they did their best to serve us. Especially there was one man who helped us throughout the night, even showed us the fresh seafood they had upstairs. The food came out too slowly for our liking, but we tried to be understanding since we come in a big group. Next, food: The shrimp is SUPERB! Order the steamed one, eat it with the green sauce! Spicy but savory! Seafood fried rice is delicious as well. It has some tiny crunches inside, not sure what, just yummy. Beef hotpot. Enough for 6 people, alot of veggies Steamed Grouper fish (in the picture), its good, just a must to get for our first meal in Halong Bay. Roasted pork, skin is crispy
Overall, its a really good place for small groups and a romantic date. The ambience is lovely with all the wine selections...
