I'm always pleasantly surprised when I go to Grandaddy's but that might be because I almost always know what I want to eat and haven't experimented much with their menu.
I visited early Sunday afternoon when they were literally just opening up and was greeted by the friendliest staff who made us feel comfortable and taken care of. 😊 My dates and I wanted to be surrounded by fresh air and in the sun but not burning to a crisp which they managed to find a balance of perfectly. They were happy to open and close the umbrella at our request.
I loved that we didn't have to wait ages for our meal. 🥳 We ordered the food first, while we figured out what drinks we were going to go with. Opting to have some fruit juices and a Malawian shandy because it was a Sunday and we definitely needed some refreshing. All three of us went for their famous wings, Peri peri for me and lemon x herb for my dates, plus a side of fries each because one thing about me I will eat fries.😂
When the food came it was still sizzling, looked delicious and tasted even better if that's even possible.😍 The flavour was not just coated on to the chicken but went all the way through and tbh I'm salivating as I type this because it was that good.🤤 The portions are perfect, full size wings, honestly a steal for that price. And the fries were skinny, crisp and fluffy, just how I like them.😊 My only issue is that you have to order the fries separately but I honestly overlook that because they're so yummy.
Will I be going back? Of course!💃🏾 Having been there both when it's full and when it's quieter, I definitely prefer it quieter and you can actually hear each other without having to shout. So I will be sure to plan it so I'm there around...
Read moreThe atmosphere is retro themed with artifacts that seem authentically sourced... Like they really did come from the periods they're depicting; the quaint cast iron fire place, the sepia pictures, the ancient typewriter, just to name a few.
As the name suggests, it was patronised by a lot of senior citizens and also a LOT of youngsters who were super loud and raucous. The music was continuously dulcet even as the evening wore in, I appreciated that.
The crowd though... Eh... Too loud for my liking.
I ordered the Chicken Burger 🍔 special, 8/10. It was delicious, drenched in a sweet and savoury sauce which, though was tasty, made the bun soggy. Points lost for a soggy bun for a burger.
The bathrooms were rustically themed but not well maintained. They were quite dirty and contained a rather unpleasant odour akin to ones with a pipe leak.
Anyone who wished to smoke was free to do so anywhere, there was no designated smoking spot, so, 0/10 for that.
I'm guessing it was way better when it opened but... My experience was not too great, and it wasn't too bad either... Smack in the...
Read moreFood didn't take long. I tried a burger, and it was a hard solid piece of meat. It actually hurt my teeth biting into it. Almost as though frozen patties had been thrown onto a flame directly. The result is something rock solid. There was not much shade at all in the outdoor area. People seemed to sit around the edges under trees. Definitely go at quieter times on a hot day, to ensure a seat out the sun. My bum burned on those wooden benches through my clothing. They should have a lot more umbrellas up on a hot sunny day. Chocolate milkshake was really good. REALLY good. If it wasn't for the milkshake, I would give this place 1 star. No alcohol was consumed, so this is an honest sober fair review. I do plan to go back and try other dishes (hopefully in...
