Very spacious, comfortable and upmarket venue with a large dining area and separate bar with large TV screens for sporting events, the noise of which doesn't impact on the diners.
Easy to find and adequate safe parking.
Food is well prepared and presented my favourites being half chicken or beef stew with starch of your choice (chips/fries, mashed/boiled potatoes, rice or sadza (local white maize meal similar to grits / polenta). These cost U$8/U$10 respectively and portion sizes are good.
Drinks are very reasonably priced when compared to other similar restaurants.
On my last visit, I had phoned to make a reservation and then when leaving the restaurant I forgot my wallet. About half an hour later I received a call from the manager asking if the wallet was mine, for which I was eternally grateful and relieved. Very honourable and unusual service in this day and age.
Highly recommended.
Updated review : Have since tried the Ladies Sirloin @ U$8 including a side of awesome mashed potatoes (or one can choose chips / salad / sadza). The steak was tender & cooked to perfection. Decent portion and reasonably priced. I phoned in my order for take-away and it was ready when I got there. They even added some extra garlic at no extra charge, as they have come to know that I favour garlic with my meals. My go to restaurant in Bulawayo - well lit, large and guarded parking is...
Read moreService & Atmosphere: Visited on a Thursday evening for dinner. The restaurant wasn’t very busy, with plenty of open tables available. The setting is elegant and upscale, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Staff were friendly and clear in their communication, though food took about 25 minutes to arrive.
Menu & Pricing: The restaurant offers a refined menu at reasonable prices for the quality: • 200g Sirloin Steak with Mashed Potatoes – $9 • Chicken Wings – $7 • Fries (side) – $2 They charge 10% Gratuity on your total order
Food: • Sirloin Steak with Mashed Potatoes – The highlight of the meal. The steak was tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, while the mashed potatoes were equally impressive—smooth, rich, and delicious. • Chicken Wings – Fairly average in quality, but elevated by an excellent sauce. • Fries – Well-seasoned and very enjoyable.
Overall: King’s Kraal blends an elegant setting with flavorful food at accessible prices. While not everything was equally outstanding, the steak and mashed potatoes alone make it worth visiting. A great choice for a relaxed yet refined...
Read moreWe got there and were ceremoniously handed a flyer that they were hosting an Africa Day buffet comprised of African cuisine.
We were told we could go up and serve twice. The two gentlemen who were serving the food - one of whom was the head chef - were both surly.
We took the first plate, with the mind that we would come back and get what we didn’t this time around in the second round.
When I went the second time around to get the two dishes I had skipped the first time, the surly young man told me I’m not allowed to come for seconds, per the chef, and indicated with a head gesture that I put my plate back.
The Malawi Shandy was excellent - compliments to the bar man. Our waiter, Mthokozisi, was fabulous - top tier but let down by a loosey goosey manager. The food was ok. The young man (not the chef) who was serving the food should obviously remain back of house due to his lack of food knowledge and a personality akin to that of a gnat - he single-handedly convinced our table of 5 that there are other establishments in the city of Bulawayo worthy...
