Beautiful gardens to sit and enjoy the good food however the service was lacklustre for the most part.

Some of our party ordered the chicken and beef pies but our waitress came back about 10 minutes later to say they’d run out of the pastries. She then said the pie would come with a bread instead. We waited quite long for our drinks and our food and when we followed up with the waitress she said it’ll be out in a few minutes but “a few more minutes” became another 10 minutes or so of waiting.

When the pies finally came, the bread option was literally a small slice of bread and it wasn’t enough bread to make up for the lack of pastry. We voiced our disappointment to the waitress and she said “well you didn’t have to have the pie, you could’ve had different options” and when we said we weren’t happy with the service she responded with a very disingenuous apology as if to say I couldn’t care less that you’ve not had a good experience. It felt as if she was doing us a favour by serving us.

The only reason I would go back there is because I actually enjoyed the food I ordered and the gardens are pretty. It’s a nice breakfast/brunch/early lunch option but don’t expect...

Bottom Drawer is great for a casual catch-up with friends. It's set in a lovely and very peaceful garden,( and they always have beautiful flower arrangements,) making it really good (highly recommend the quiche and salads) for relaxed brunch or lazy lunches. On Saturdays, there's the Maasdorp Market next door, which you can wander about and pick up some homegrown produce and products before settling down for some great coffee. The food is always really well prepared, although prices tend to be a bit on the higher end of the scale. Do not go here if you are in a hurry because the service can be pretty slow and frustrating. They could definitely improve on efficiency. Kids can also play in the garden on the swing sets which is quite nice for a family. One weird aspect for me is that their waitresses are dressed in maid uniforms, which gives off a bit of a very awkward vibe. They could just wear the black and white uniforms, but maybe...

Been going here for years. Unfortunately today was awful, the service was slow and the food was bad. My salad had no dressing(I know things like this can be overlooked but still) I ordered an open chicken mayo sandwich, had a few bites. I asked the waitress Bridget what was in it and she said chicken paprika and cream. I asked what about the mayonnaise and she said there was no mayonnaise in it. I then spoke to one of the other ladies (I think she's one of the owners and she said she has no idea what's in it that none of them know what's in it) That raised a of red flags for me because I do not understand how they serve food to people without knowing what it is that they're actually serving. I got severely sick from that sandiwch, have thrown up twice have had a running time since. Very disappointing for our first meal out since the lockdown. What an absolute nightmare. I hope they do get back to what they used to be...

I have to give this a 5 star review because it was the most memorable and tasty restaurant experience my family & I had eating out in Harare (August 2024). Easily the best food experience we had in the 4 days we spent in Harare - all served with a smile. Firstly, I ordered one of their pies and I added an extra salad with it thinking I may need to bulk it out - well that was unnecessary because the pie was well filled with massive amounts of chicken (no skimping here) and the "side-salad" was big enough to not require any extra. Desserts are freshly made that day and we all ate easily the best desserts of the entire trip (highly recommended). Finally, they do a really great coffee for afters. Exceptional. Half of my family are vegetarians and they had super meals. Hats off. all of this in the most pleasant surroundings. Hats off to the Bottom Drawer.

I have been to The Bottom Drawer before, but this visit left me shocked and deeply disappointed. I went with a friend for breakfast, which came with tea, and we were seated in the garden under a fig tree. When leaves fell into my tea and I politely asked for a replacement, the manager flatly refused. She told me that if I had a problem with leaves I should have sat inside, then removed the leaves from my cup and told me to drink it or buy another one. This was not just poor service — it felt dismissive and discriminatory. For a place that presents itself as welcoming, this behavior was unacceptable and offensive. A simple act of courtesy, like replacing a cup of tea, would have gone a long way. Instead, I left feeling disrespected and unwelcome
