We did the 3 hour paranormal tour. Our guide was Linda. Linda was amazing. Thank you so much for our tour. There was no faking, trying to force things or making us scared etc. It was just a really interesting time showing us different areas where we may possibly see, hear, feel something. We also had Spirit communicators that we used to determine answers to questions we may have asked. That was the set up. So what happened?!!! Well... we felt cold, warm blasts, vibrations, tingling, hairs standing on end, someone pulled my pony tail, another grabbed the back of my leg, Pretty sure it was Matron Sharp who bopped me on the head. We had many questions answered by several ( at least 10) spirits on the communicator. I almost got stabbed by a divining rod!! My friend got migraine symptoms in several rooms that went away after we left and I got very low abdominal pain/ heaviness in the woman's ward that subsided as we were leaving the ward. We heard bumps in answer to questions, saw shadow ghosts moving around in hallways and had foreboding feelings in some areas, didn't open doors to some areas as they just felt bad. It was a brilliant night. I would recommend the 3 hour tour. When everyone doing the 2 hr tour left, we had very active equipment and a couple of decent conversations with Lizzie and Paul. I would love to come back tonight and do it all again. Thanks Linda and all the crew who make these tours possible. So worth it.

The Asylum of Beechworth for the seekers can find this along Albert Rd up on Mayhills... The asylum was first opened in 1867, and it was one of the larger psychiatric hospitals that once serviced the state of Victoria At its peak time in the later part of the 1800s, it had over 1,200 patients, with some being locked up for no real reason at all! There were to be 500 staff members as well around the time... Common forms of treatment included the use of restraints, such as shackles and straitjackets, as well as isolation boxes and electroconvulsive therapy, while teeth were pulled as punishment to those who self-harmed!... Following the royal commission into psychiatric care, the hospital was shut down in 1998 after running for 128 years. We had taken the ghost tour thanks to a friend, The tour started at 8:30 pm, and we enjoyed the tour with some great information from the tour guide as we wandered some of the buildings and dark hallways.

Incredible tour of a fascinating place, rich with a sad history. The grounds and buildings have been well preserved, so you can see much of what it looked like when it was used as a "lunatic asylum". The guide was extremely knowledgeable and told us stories about patients and staff along the way. There was plenty of time to walk around each room/building to have a really good look and take photos. You can also drive or walk around the premises and enjoy the beautiful gardens outside of tour times. What I appreciated the most was the sensitivity of staff towards mental health issues. They took opportunities to point out how far we have come in mental health care compared to what treatment was like in the days of the asylum, but also to reflect on the fact that people were only doing what they knew to be best with the limited knowledge they had back then. It was really lovely that these human beings from the past were given such dignity.

It was actually quite boring for me. It runs too late,1245am so wasn't back at the accomodation until 130am, everyone was wrecked by the end of it. Starting at 830 would probably be better. Will, the guide was knowledgeable and pleasant, a nice guy, he knew about the place but his theories regarding spirit energy did not match mine in many instances and he talked quite a bit I didn't feel I could get in the zone, so I couldn't stay focused. The equipment was average, nothing fancy, especially if you are into this kind of stuff on the regular, maybe bring some of your own gear. I bought my own so I stuck my headphones on and got lots of stuff coming through my equipment which I'm grateful for. But I can get the same level of stuff at homeon my couch. For the stature of the place I expected huge energy but it just wasn't there tonight. Overall I didn't experience near as much as I normally would but I usually go out solo, this was a bunch of people who came in groups and I wasn't a fan of the energy at all. Perhaps if you have no paranormal investigation experience it may be more your thing. Unfortunately this was not at all for me. I won't be doing anything similar again and will stick to doing it solo.

Adding to their reply

Woah, I see you have taken offence and in turn bitten back with sarcasm, so let me be totally honest and blunt. My review is my experience, and that is why we review, so people can get an honest POV.

I'm sorry but I won't sugar coat it. Well actually, I still kind of did if I'm totally honest. I'll say it again, your tours would not be suited to the experienced hunter they are for amatures and those just wanting a bit of light fun. The gear you used was very basic, maybe not to gen pop who have never seen any gear before.

Haha OK, well scene's you went there, Yeah all I bought was a ghost box, because I came to Beechworth on Easter holiday to fossick, not to ghost hunt so I didn't have my arsenal, my ghost box just happens to live in my car. Your emf meters very meh, one psb11 that absolutely nothing came through, while mine was getting stuff, shame I didn't have it on for everyone to hear, but with the constant talking they wouldn't have been able to hear it anyway, an ovilus (not the sought after ones) meh, a couple of static detectors, meh, the people their clothing and the carpet make static so of course you will see some flashing. No sls cameras, portals, boo buddies, TIR, the list goes on; oh wait there was 1 k2 meter that wasn't used, but none of the actual fun stuff to use. Hey if I'd planned ahead I could have bought the lot and more along for you to borrow but that would have made you look pretty unprofessional hey. So yeah again, it WAS totally boring for me.

Yeah I only booked in in the late arvo, and yep you made space for me which was awesome! Thanks. Yep you said it was a large group, that's cool, not complaining about the size, like I said I'm used to going solo not with non experienced strangers, but I'm giving my experience just incase other experienced people are considering doing it and don't want that kind of energy around, that way like you said they could book a private yor instead.

If I did the joint on my own I'm sure we would get plenty of data, I don't doubt the energy of the place itself for a second. It's the energy of the business being run there I was not a fan of.

On the timing everybody was yawning and leaning on each other and had gone totally quiet, so from my POV people were over it.

And re the theories, perhaps instead of making statements that 'this' is how it is, maybe the guide can say these are our theories they may be different to your own experiences, because your putting ideas in the customer's mind like they are fact.

The place itself is beautiful and a fantastically preserved piece of history and I'm glad I saw it in that sense but I'd not bother again. Instead next time I'll visit the escape rooms, the guys there were polite and the place looks amazing. If you are choosing between the 2 experiences, I'd say choose the...

12/08/2022 5 stars. I went on the twilight ghost tour and the guide was passionate, energetic and very theatrical in telling the history of the place, making it a very enjoyable experience.

After that, I went on the paranormal investigation. This was my second time doing it and I have to say, it was a massive improvement on the first one I went on (see below review from earlier this year). I absolutely loved it this time. There was heaps of activity from the very beginning and the guide (I think it was Paul?) was amazing, open minded and even asked us where we'd like to go. I'll definitely be back again in the future.

01/04/2022 1 Star for the paranormal investigation. 4 stars for the history tour. In fact, I'd love to give 5 stars for the history tour alone.

The bad: I did a 3hr paranormal investigation and although the place is eerie at night and there are definitely spirits still there, the tour guide just ruined it for me. There were ridiculous antics where he made jokes about the spirits, he had scientific explanations for everything (which ruined the whole PARANORMAL aspect), had over the top reactions to things, as well as a complete and utter disregard and disrespect for any of the spirits that were responding to the ghost meters and various items that were used.

The guide was egotistic and yelled at the ghosts and when they didn't do what he wanted, he taunted and antagonised them. He is, hands down, the worst tour guide I've ever met. I've been on a lot of tours around Victoria and NSW and none of them were this bad.

The good: Fortunately, I had a chance to chat to the owner about my experience, who was very kind and took time out of their day to hear me out, which I really appreciate.

The history tour (during the day) is a must! Especially before you do any ghost tours or paranormal investigations! The lovely guide was dressed in period garb and looked the part. Turned out that she had experience as a nurse, so that helped a lot.

She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Asylum/hospital and was able to tell some wonderful stories about some of the more positive outcomes of the horrid period of healthcare. I can't recommend this enough!

Overall, although I've tried not to let the paranormal investigation ruin the highlight that was the history tour, I'm left with a...

Very professional this bunch. I’m going to attack this with a side of interpretation, hopefully the owners can respect and not revert to immaturity in the face of scrutiny. Some of the replies to previous reviews should say it all. A building with a very dark history of mental institutionalisation and thereby a rather interesting history, unfortunately ruined by a poorly lead tour. A quick google search would give you a more in depth overview of the establishment’s historical significance and various events or records striking any intrigue than anything described in these tours. A series of lacklustre attempts at communicating with the dead followed by a rather inane guessing game of who can find the first initial, age, hair colour and CoD of Jane Doe ensued; giving this otherwise appealing experience a damper of monotony. I have been on several fun and informative investigations that explore the afterlife in such a light that is both unnerving and entertaining, using all the same equipment and techniques. This tour brought none of that experience with the paranormal, that many search for, and anything that didn’t align with the guides ideations, meant being ejected from the tour. The area of the asylum we were guided through was no longer than 5 minutes of walking, I was beyond disappointed. Do yourself a favour and have a look around the outside of the site in your own time. Much of the interior is occupied by tenants or boarded up/under construction.

EDIT- I was not removed from the tour, that’s pretty obvious from my part. Perhaps take a more professional approach and address some of the issues articulated in my review. After all, you are a tour operator, customer service should be the forefront of your business. Calling me a “Karen” doesn’t really cut it.

Why I would need to craft a fake account to abuse you is beyond me. Does my review sound abusive? No… Constructive? Yes. Now take the advice for the betterment of your business....
