Came for a relaxing weekend and at $1300 for a nights accommodation and a spa treatment for two, we were expecting something special in Beechworth. The expectation did not match the reality. Pointless the proprietors asking what we wanted to achieve here… rest? relaxation? tranquility? because none of that was achieved. Room was bland, decorated straight out of Kmart, not a single piece of art on any wall. Ran a “relaxing bath” which was spoiled by a 45 min wait for someone to arrive with towels as, other than a bath mat and a couple of face washers, there were none in the room. Decided to have a shower, saw the sign directing me to put three drops of essential oil on the shower floor to make it smell nice, but the essential oil bottle was empty. Apparently there are no staff living locally, so if you have any issues be prepared to wait. Treated pine to burn in the combustion heater,(toxic), and a “goodie bag” (an unsealed paper bag of tissues and a couple of cotton buds). Not sure what the two Redhead matches on a pedestal were supposed to signify. The brochure in the room encouraged reading for relaxation but unless you want to read under the blaze of all the rooms down lights being on at once you are stuck struggling with the bare bulbs hanging by the bedside that are so dim they must be powered by a very old rat on a very rickety treadmill. We were told when booking that lunch was included, but when we asked what time lunch was….no reply. Apparently “the bot” had replied, and indeed it had (we just hadn’t been waiting with bated breath on the website) but it never answered our question about lunch. So we went and got our own lunch and on arrival were quizzed as to why we had missed lunch. The “light breakfast” included a few spoonfuls of yoghurt in a used jam jar and two cups of muesli in another used jam jar. One 500ml bottle of water for us to share, and 200ml of milk for our coffee, tea, muesli, but make a choice because there’s not enough for both of us. Seriously is a litre of milk too expensive? When the staff member arrived with the towels she offered us a refund and a bottle of wine. We declined the wine but why not put a bottle in the room anyway? It would have been a nice touch. At $1300 it was over promised, over priced and underdelivered. Cancelled our second night as well and asked for a refund. If the major component of the package was the spa treatment, it must be mind boggling as the accommodation was so disappointing. I’ve stayed in AirBnb’s for a quarter the price with better service and better inclusions. If I can offer one piece of advice; in hospitality you must set an expectation and aim to exceed it. Service shortfalls will kill your business.

Simply stunning. We had the absolute pleasure staying at the Benev. Cat and her team made us feel so welcome. It felt like we were staying in a luxurious, stress free and warm home. The decor, service and overall design were all world class so we are so grateful we decided to stay at the Benev. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Cat for making our Beechworth experience so memorable.

Delightful ambiance - crisp, clean vibe - green grass and white decor creates a gorgeous Friday night feeling! The service is superior, and most importantly, there are excellent non-alcoholic options. I’ll be back …

Staff were rude and no facitilities. Scratchy linen sheets and feezing cold room that was dirty. No privacy, linen curtains that did not block out light or cover windows properly. Bathtub looks amazing in pics but is very shallow and impossible to not splash water all over the floor. No one to greet us at reception or show us to our room when we arrived, wandered around for 15 mintues in the rain before anyone helped. Was very pretentious, no facitilities, and extremely overpriced. Seems like the look of the rooms was the priority and not the comfort. Also it's an old mental hospital and it's quite creepy, especially at night as all the lights are on timers and no one is around in the evening so it is pitch black. Nothing in walking distance. Stayed here in 2022 before the...

Arrived after check-in time to find no access to the room due to management thinking we were arriving the following day. Noisy petrol powered machinery in use for gardening when we arrived at a ‘relaxation’ experience. Grubby room entry, dead flies, and food containers unhygienic and sadly lacking quantity. Magnificent rooms but so poorly run its quite unbelievable. We entered the attached day spa for a look around (which was not open for business) whilst waiting to get entry into our room, and was then accused of ‘breaking’ into the premises. Management did nothing to fix their mistake beside offering to refund monies and then retained a 10% ‘booking fee’ - Absolutely disgraceful experience and would recommend that you...
