Pleasant bicycle ride through the reserve but the path is close to the motorway in some places. Watch out for snakes! The Visitor Centre is the building close to this placemarker - it is NOT at the location identified by Google, which is a restricted access sewerage treatment plant. Google has refused to correct its mistake. UPDATE Feb 2018 - it seems that Google Maps has finally changed the location of this placemarker. There are three placemarkers with this name - two with a camera icon and one with a tree icon - and a fourth named Boondall Wetlands Information Centre, which is the same thing. One of the camera icons is actually on the building that houses the Centre (whoopee!), the other is in the carpark nearby, the tree icon is in the forest nearby and the Information Centre marker is further away...

A delightful place for a flat, easy 2 kilometre walk through a variety of wetland environments, but predominantly casuarina (she - oak) open forest. The pathway, comprises smooth decomposed granite gravel or wooden boardwalk, making it wheelchair friendly. Make sure you detour across the boardwalk to the bird-hide for views up Nundah Creek and across Cabbage Tree Creek to the Shorncliffe boat ramp and marina. Take drinking water with you on a hot day: I sufficed with a stop at the drinking fountain (drinking dribble!) at the start of the walk before and after. There are also a couple of very short walks and the long bike path to Nudgee Beach. Even in the late morning, there was a considerable amount of bird life to see and despite not being into wildlife photography, I was happy with the...

My partner and I enjoyed the afternoon cycling through Boondal Wetlands. We had forgotten the insect repellant and were so grateful that the information centre had roll ons available for use because the mosquitoes were so thick. The bicycle/walking paths are very wide and well maintained and every 200 metres they are marked with the remaining distance which was like having my own personal trainer encouraging me, especially on the way back when I was getting really tired. The wetland track is about 8.5 kms round trip and mostly easy riding. We rode all the way to Nudgee beach and had a break at the park overlooking the water. This was approximately another 4 km round trip. We took it pretty easy so riding time was about 1.25 hours for the...

Wetlands by their very nature are flat and so the walking and cycling trails you can find here are easy. There are only two marked tracks: one circuit made for walking that takes you up to where Cabbage Tree Creek and Nundah Creek meet, and another longer one that's also suitable for cycling that goes as far as Nudgee Road. In a relatively small area you can find such a variety of fauna and flora here. However, there's an elephant in the room... the Gateway Motorway. It's a busy and noisy thoroughfare and is adjacent to these wetlands. Unfortunately, it serves as a constant reminder that you haven't escaped the city.

The new visitor centre is amazing. Interactive learning and games for the kids, the wetlands walk is easy and achievable by all fitness levels, the visitor centre has a check list/brochure and colouring in of things to find on your walk that the kids loved to do. There is also sunscreen and insect repellent available if you forget to bring your own and you WILL need the latter. Picnic tables are available so bring some lunch and make a morning/afternoon out of your trip.
