I have been going to Coogee beach for years. It's best features would be the width of the beach itself, the water staying shallow for a fair way and getting deeper gradually (so good for the chidler-beans), between the dunes and the road there are parks with covered picnic tables - possibly BBQ's, I can't recall. There's a large shark net and showers to rinse off but which are usually surrounded by sand thus making the process a bit pointless (a few foot only washing taps, which only some showers at Coogee have, would be welcome at the car park, or further away from the beach itself). In my opinion there should be more showers in general, the entrance I usually use on my visits there is a single head shower, no foot shower and a strip of sand surrounding it. I can't tell whether the sand has accumulated by washing from bodies and isn't cleaned up or the shower was built where sand already existed.
The highlight of the whole beach is without doubt the jetty. It is fished from year round and jumped from all summer long, usually teens doing flips, show offs! There are also lower jetties about 1 - 2m above the water (tide dependent) the higher one would be 5 - 6m so all the family can find something to jump off. Huzzah! In addition there is a pontoon that can be swum to within the shark net that has a slide on it. I like to challenge the kids - "We can go on the slide but you have swim out with me". Ah, summer days.
On the downside, the parking lots fill up fast, it can get crowded around the jetty and the shark net but it's a long beach and families will stick around the more child friendly, life guard monitored area (Note- they aren't always there, I don't know when specifically they are present). The waves can sometimes be large-ish - depending on ones standards - but they break all at once so wave riding is rare, mostly there are only small waves that resemble the wake from a below average sized boat.
Part of the jetty walking surface is covered with a plastic grill rather than wood, I'll charitably say that it is uncomfortable to walk when shoeless, others would say that it straight up hurts to walk on. Either way, who made this baffling decision? People generally get around on the beach and in the water without footwear. Were they shown samples by a salesman and told this plastic grill was cheapest and, even though it was being installed on a beach jetty, tested it buy walking on it in their $600 brogues?
The shark net was due to be removed in October 2017 but is still there, hopefully it's permanent. It has certainly been there all...
Read moreDo you know I must admit that this beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in my whole entire life like I just recently moved from Texas Houston and we don't have beaches there. But when I moved to this town manager has dropped down because it is such a beautiful beach and I love the waves and the crows are singing from above. God bless there's a beautiful beach.
Now I'm glad that perth hey something to offer but why am I giving it such a low rate and well it's because I don't really care that it's like Los Angeles because it isn't but it's just the children there that are really distracted me and I find that for the sake of my own safety. I just find it really rude and annoying. Like they're teenagers and they're not even wearing appropriate for. You are usually go with a full body suit, but they go with something in one of those types of magazines. Oh, so they're eyelash. they look like little blocks of black charcoal and S just really triggering me and they just add very loud. They do some really not so good. I'm drinking as well and they're underage like they're under 21. Something is not adding up at the moment Australia because I thought this country was a lot more stricter on the people here. Anyways I recommend you to go to the beach at midnight because usually they're not they are but last time I was there they were they are and they weren't saying some very nice...
Read moreThis is a great beach that I have been coming to for years. Crystal clear water with a great little jetty for you and your kids to play on. It has multi levels so good for the little ones or for a high up bombie. This beach is beautifully sheltered from large waves and is becoming more and more popular now development has grown in the area. The one star missing is only because in years past you could sustainably harvest local mussels from the pylons by hand picking the largest ones but now due to inconsiderate people scraping the pylons of adults AND juveniles there are no longer mussels here. A shame because it made a great place...
