Dog friendly (seats outside) Not too baby/kids friendly (fancy, no baby chairs, nice garden but not for running around and playing) Wow. This has been one of our best dining experiences in Perth! The location is beautiful, historical building and great garden. The indoor seatings are veeery 'grammable, but the outside area is just magical. Great place to have a date, a nice lunch or night out, and to take guests from out of town. Food: the prawn spaghetti is one of the best things I've eaten recently! Dreaming of it still. The lamb chops were also great with a delightful dip. I wasn't expecting much from the kale salad but it was surprisingly addictive. The chocolate peanut butter was also wonderful. The potatoes were massive for a side dish portion, they were a bit heavy but we still finished them all, the tomato sauce was good. The bread was a bit disappointing (considering they are related to Bread in common I was expecting a bit more). Really good selection of wines and tap brews. I had a mocktail and it was good but hard to stir and drink without a straw. We popped in after a beach session and felt quite underdressed in this really gorgeous setting, but the staff still made us feel welcome. The bartender guy had initially said that the outdoor area was closed and there was nowhere we could go with our dog. But then Jodie arrived and saved our day (and our dinner!). She was absolutely lovely, set us up in the outdoor area and even brought over a big fancy water bowl for our dog. The ladies kept checking in on us and despite being quite busy, the drinks and the food came quickly. Will be definitely be back!!

Love having this in my local area ... quite 'upmarket' so won't be a regular, more for a treat, but still great to have nearby! Kudos to the owners & team for all their hard work, the place, inside & out, looks a treat, they should be very proud! All staff were exceptionally warm & welcoming when we went on their 2nd day of opening. I'd encourage them to introduce themselves, that adds a bit more personalization. I did manage to get Joel's name, who is the manager and very pleasant & helpful & that reflected in his staff. We opted for the bar meal of pork (only get the one meal choice, other choices are just piccies) .... it was fine, perhaps to many different flavours on one plate for my liking, but probably represents what the eating experience here is all about .... flavours. We couldn't get a sweet treat to follow, to choose from the main menu, we had to be seated in the dining room, which is fine ... it's a beautiful looking dining room with an outside option. Winter should be a cosy experience if the gorgeous fireplace is used. I loved the couple of rooms that each had a large table seating about 8 or so ... great option for a private get together & very quaint with it's period setting of antique bits & pieces. At the gate entry there's a notice of advice that bees frequent the garden, and what a lush garden it is. I plan to return to do the night tour of the place .... when I'm due my next treat!!! As we've watched the progress from day one, getting this ready for trading, it's been a mammoth task & reflects the love they've put into it so we do wish them every success in their venture.

From the team that brought you Bread in Common, here comes Coogee Common in the repurposed Coogee Hotel. It’s a beautiful big space with lots of lovely corners. The attention to detail is second to none. You are greeted by a lush (enviable) veggie patch and a warm ‘Farm Shop’ selling jams, pickles, merch and more. The Longue Bar is decadent and boasts a simple but effective back bar producing a great cocktail list. Walk through the main dining area, the festoon lights, large bottles filled with pickles and decor transport you to a wholesome dining experience. The menu takes on the farm-to-table concept and is seasonal. The textures, flavours and colours of the dishes are an utter delight. We had a lovely chilled red to kick us off and a platter for 2 to share amongst 4 of us topped with additions dishes like the tempura fish, kangaroo + Freo octopus. The fresh + warm Bread in Common bread was cherry on top of the experience - it just ties everything up. Sauces were all mopped up by the end! The service is exceptional -we had a friend with nut allergies and extra effort was made to ensure all dishes were nut free. If you are heading out for lunch, you can also book a tour of the veggie garden which includes a set menu. Congrats on a phenomenal launch Scott and team! WA is truly blessed to have such a dining experience.

*edit- after reading other reviews, I can’t believe I was actually right in my suspicions about the casual racism that goes on here. This is now the third review for this place where someone has been treated differently and discriminated against for being a person of colour. How disgusting and disappointing in this day and age * The treatment I experienced here was shocking. We attended one of my closest friends weddings that was held at Coogee Common. Around 10 I was asked to leave the whole premise for being “too drunk”. Not only was I highly confused because this was a wedding and everyone was very drunk, but I thought the whole approach was quite offensive. The lady with brunette hair who worked here treated me little worth. Telling my partner he is allowed to stay, but I have to go. If a young lady is “sooo” drunk at a wedding, you would hope staff wouldn’t just completely abolish her to stand out in the cold by herself away from everything. Very unsafe and very unkind. Also this is a wedding, very unprofessional of the lady who worked here. A better approach would be to tell that person they need to sit down and have some waters and layoff the alcohol for a bit if I was that “drunk”. Meanwhile, there were people falling over and far more drunk than myself, visibly, right in front of the same lady who asked me to leave. Nothing happened to those people. I sat on the outside watching in disgust. Felt very discriminated against. I have never experienced such awful treatment like I did here this night. Even the people around me last night were as confused as I was, and in agreement that my behaviour was quite normal, and in comparison to the rest of the guests, I was no different if not better. I was not falling over or throwing up everywhere. As someone who was looking forward to one of my best friends special night for the last few years, it was very disappointing to have been treated in such a way. Not sure if this lady who worked here was racist or just unprofessional but I would not recommend having any functions here, they do not respect you or your guests, unkind, discriminatory, unprofessional. I will not be coming here ever again. I think the woman that works here needs to take a long look at herself, the service she extended was horrifying, unfair and straight up wrong. Edit * response to owner. I see that you said if signs of intoxication are evident one has to follow the guidelines. However, a woman fell over on the stairs right in front of myself, my partner and the “manager” yet she turned a complete blind eye to that, didn’t address that at all and continued to pick on myself without being even being able to tell me what I had done. We both said, did you not just see what happened? This woman completely disregarded that drunk behaviour but continued to pick on myself. She was not able to even tell me the “evident signs of intoxication ” I apparently displayed. This woman was calculated in her approach to me, waiting until I was no longer around people until she came up to me as she was definitely aware that if she said this in front of anyone else they would of questioned her reasoning. Your response doesn’t stand, no one was able to explain what I had actually done that warranted that kind of treatment whilst allowing others who were in worse condition to stay right in front of their eyes. Given the fact that there are two other reviews, one that quite literally says “do not come here if you are not white” proves your response to be recumbent and that your venue shows lack of accountability and integrity. If you can get back to me with security footage that shows me behaving in a drunken manner then I won’t be inclined to take...

Sadly, our last visit was disappointing 😔 Coogee Common had been one of our go-to favourites and we have dined on special occasions here for years either by ourselves, with friends or with family. It had always been memorable. Tonight, for a birthday, we had an early dinner midweek by ourselves, along with only a handful of other 2-3 cover tables.

The first questionable impression was upon arrival in the carpark. A staff member parked right next to us near the entrance, pulling in as I was trying to get out of the car - not only were there ample parking spaces aside (it wasn’t busy at all) but it is normal to expect that parking closest to the entrance would be reserved for patrons, not for staff use.

Next, the portion sizes/quality of the food was unequal to their menu price. We understand pricing when quality meets expectations and happy to pay for these experiences, however this fell far below expectations and past experience in this venue. Realistically, we felt everything was priced 50% over the perceived value of the dishes. The sweet potato gnocchi was too salty and lacked balance, the grassfed beef fillet was tender but not worth $65, goat croquettes the size of chicken eggs seemed pitiful for $7ea, the lamb ribs for $14ea looked decent at first but in reality had hardly any meat on them. To finish off, we decided to share the vegan chocolate mousse with dragonfruit sorbet, which priced at $20 would expectedly be at least half-decent. It was literally a small quenelle of mousse with a another small quenelle of sorbet - on a large plate. Very glad we didn’t order two desserts or we’d be doubly perplexed! The one and only thing worth (just) the menu price was a full plate of chips for $14. Even our wines by the glass felt like stingy pours. Overall, most of the food tasted ok, but ok is not relative to what we paid, nor what we expected from this establishment.

This really is a sad review for us and we’re hopeful that management take it onboard for...
