I went on the embassy’s website to find information for a visa to Hong Kong on there it clearly states that the processing time for the visa is 4 working days and it doesn’t mention any where that visas for Hong Kong need to be sent to Hong Kong for processing. Based on this information I booked my holiday 3 weeks ahead believing that I was able to obtain a visa for Hong Kong within 4 working days. After gathering all documents required for the visa application I went to the Chinese Consulate in Melbourne to submit the application after waiting for 2.5 hours to be served I was told that all visas for Hong Kong need to be sent to Hong Kong for processing and it would take at least 4 weeks to process. My holiday was booked to depart in 3 weeks time so they didn’t accept my application and told me that there was nothing they could do to help me and that I needed to contact the Hong Kong Immigration Department in Hong Kong to see if they could help me. Of course I contacted the Hong Kong Immigration Department and they said bad luck the processing time is 4 weeks you booked your holiday too early that is your problem. I lost all the money that I paid for hotel in Hong Kong because the booking was not refundable and lost most of the money that I paid for the flights because of the cancellation fees! In total I lost about $5,000.00 so instead of having a nice holiday for this amount of money I ended up with stress, heartache and disappointments. I’m writing this hoping that other people will be aware of this issue and won’t be misled by the information provided by the Chinese Embassy in Australia about visas...
