The Canberra Nara Candle Festival held annually in Spring, is a community celebration of the Canberra Nara Sister City relationship. The Festival is held in Canberra Nara Park on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.
2010 Pagoda Toka was commissioned to celebrate the 1300th anniversary of Japan's ancient Capital, Nara. The sculpture has three main elements: A five-storied Pagoda form which represents Canberra; a floating Stone represents Nara; and the form of a small bird Symbolising Peace. The Bird resembles a Latham's Snipe, a species which migrates annually between Japan and Canberra. The artist has created Taku to express the amicable relationship and mutual understanding shared by Canberra and Nara as sister Cities.

Dedicated in 1990, the park was unveiled on United Nations Day as a lasting symbol of Australia’s commitment to peace. The area is surrounded by trees and includes a large stone sculpture. The sculpture has the inscription: “All who visit here are invited to commit themselves to peace and the elimination of all weapons of mass destruction”.
In 2001, there was a Bunya Pine planted as a connection to the International Tree of Peace celebrations.

Read moreA spacious park with a thematic garden. There’s public toilet, car park spaces, benches, and picnic tables. I’d imagine kids would happily freely run around the park. I saw a couple of adults having picnic while painting and doing puzzles. The only downside is that the park is there is a quite unpleasant smell in the afternoon and evening, I think the smell comes from Lake Burley.
