We recently went for a trek from the Shepard's Lookout call the way through to the Uriarra picnic area. The trek crossed the river at Uriarra crossing after which we went up the side of the hill and all the way to the picnic area. The grounds are well maintained and the public bathrooms were clean with hand washing facilities as well. It was wonderful to see a number of ducks around the picnic area as well, whole families of them big and small. A delightful was to spend a few hours. Highly recommend it! The trek wasn't too hard however on the way back the two steep inclined were a little painful!

An incredibly beautiful public recreation area on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. Perfect for families with dogs (this is an off-leash area), the river carves its way through rock and sand, providing endless entertainment for littlies, chill out space for teens and woodfire stove (BYO firewood) for groups who want to cook a BBQ. The reserve is large, making it feel uncrowded on days when the car park is full. A toilet block with nappy change facilities is located adjacent to the car park. This is a terrific spot - only 30 minutes from the Canberra CBD. Highly recommended.

Great location. Wonderful scenery. No Optus phone reception. Wait for the cockatoos around sunset. Feathers all over the place. Murrumbidgee River runs along the area. Nice place to wade on the rocks or have a bit of a swim. Close to Molonglo Valley suburbs of Canberra (15 m minutes) and a nice drive down. There are a few wooden BBQ area but recommend you bring your own BBQ plate. Don't leave any rubbish behind.

One of the best places to go for a swim in a the ACT especially if you want to bring your dog. Lovely maintained area and plenty of places to have a picnic under the trees. Will get busy on hot days as it is a favourite for many people. No reception there so it’s nice to have some time away from your phone.

I wouldn’t recommend for people who are scared or not comfortable with dogs. Many dogs are there of all different sizes and it is a off leash area so be prepared for some lovely dogs to come to...
