Dear Team Powerhouse Motorcycle Museum Tamworth,
Thank you all for a quite sublime experience recently when visiting Tamworth from Armidale (for a medical appointment for my mum.) I'm still in a state of euphoria, though it's been weeks since I was there!
I'm from interstate and was unaware of the museum until seeing it driving into Tamworth on the New England Highway; the moment I saw it I thought, I want to go there! Well, it took some negotiation, but where there's a will there's a way!
What a treasure trove! Rather than look through the pictures posted online I recommend going there and seeing it all for yourself in the flesh sight unseen; have an adventure! Even if you're not a 'bike person' I have no doubt you'll be amazed; it may even turn you into a 'believer', with plans to join 'the movement'! In my case it brought back exciting memories of riding dirt bikes as a schoolboy, and particularly of riding my brother's YZ490 (what a magic machine! And recently I've seen people literally somersaulting such machines at the EKKA in Queensland, and hope very much to go to the Nitro Circus sometime soon to experience more such madness and mayhem!) Also, since visiting, I've started looking up classic bike auctions (like Lloyd's and Shannon's), with the idea of acquiring something special to take to the track; and you never know, if I do, I may just drop by the museum to show it to you!
A special shout-out to Noel, who was looking after the museum the day we visited; certainly one of the friendliest people you're ever likely to meet, super courteous (making coffee and tea for my parents and myself .. thanks again Noel!), and truly a bike person, so knowledgeable about all the amazing machines, and their histories (if Noel's there the day you visit do ask him about his own bikes, and bicycles!)
So looking forward to my next visit!
Infinite stars !!!

P.S. A little heads up; Noel told us there are plans afoot to expand the museum, with many bikes waiting in the wings ready to add to the...
Read moreExtensive private collection and well worth the visit. Some exhibits with very little mileage brought from new and never really ridden. I visited in 2015 and again just recently (September 2022) only to find the collection had grown with several new exhibitions. The cost of a ticket was $8.00 making the visit well worth it and good value for the money. Located at 250 Armidale Road, East Tamworth it is easy to get to and has parking right outside. Each time I have been there, there has been coffee available outside. Just from memory the collection includes Harley Davidson, Triumph, Honda, Ducati, Agusta, BSA, all very well presented. You could lose yourself for hours and hours on end taking a trip down memory lane and wishing that you had kept that old clunker because now they would be worth thousands. The staff (well I don’t know) they may be volunteers are knowledgeable and can tell you the interesting stories of some of the old bikes that were located from around the area and brought back to be a part of the exhibition. I really did enjoy my time in Tamworth and the Powerhouse Motorcycle Museum would be at the top of my list of...
Read moreGreat private motorcycle museum in Tamworth, it's easy to access and has plenty of parking. Clean restrooms are available. Entrance fees are modest & actually very good value to see an array of different restored motorcycles.
Upon entering the museum you are greeted by the attendant and it's a relaxed atmosphere with complimentary tea, coffee or water being offered.
The attendant we were met by had good knowledge of the motorcycles including where they were sourced from & details about their restoration.
It's a good place for "baby boomers " or motorcycling enthusiasts to reflect on their entry into riding & buying bikes. I was wrapped seeing a restored 1972 Honda SL 350 & it brought back memories of the 1st motorcycle I'd purchased & the paint & detail were impeccable.
Definitely a must do if you are...
