A very nice display of memorabilia and artifacts of Forbes' early times and the bushranger Ben Hall. One in particular caught my eye and that is the locket with the photo of a woman who is reportedly unknown, which and was reputed to have been found on the body of Hall after his killing at Billabong .... having viewed the photo with the existing portraits of Susan Prior which were taken some twenty or so years after Hall's death, and by using a composite created of the two photos and having overlayed them, the facial structures allowing for age and portrait positions as well as hair style give a good indication of the same person in both portraits. I would go so far as to say that the locket portrait is of Susan Prior, who was mother to Hall's daughter Mary, and was reported in her old age to have been a very bitter woman. If anyone wishes to discuss this, I can be contacted through my Ben Hall website. Bravo to the museum for a great display....
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant. What an amazing collection. We were camping and needed a place to stay warm for a while, and are so glad we found this gem. Our lovely volunteer (Margaret?) was a weath of knowledge, helpful and informative. We thought it would be a typical country town collection(always good too) but this was beyond expectations. Room after room after room where we could well have spent longer than the hour and a half we did.
Interesting to see the Ben Hall exhibit. The panels were informative and interactive. Bite sized snippets of this bush ranger world. We now know the origins of the phrase "blind Freddy" (you'll have to visit too if you want to know 🤔😁)
Thank you Forbes. This was a...
