We absolutely love Kies. The wines, the cellar door, the Monkey Nut Cafe, the family and not least the staff. This is a business that runs on love and passion for their product. It was great to see the whole family there again yesterday (including little Morris, for the first time).
Yesterday we had the pleasure of both the Wine Blending Experience and the Grenache Release.
This review is mainly around the Wine Blending Experience. How many wineries give you exclusive access to their head winemaker for an hour and a half? For the price of a bottle you get to sit with Bronson Kies (and Chelsea) and talk about the Kies wines, taste and blend your own wine(s) and walk away with your own personal bottle (or dozen in our case).
Bronson loves his wine and gives so much to us, his adoring customers. Having the patience to answer everyone's questions and bottle all the different blends. It takes such confidence to in your product to allow enthusiasts (amateurs) to take your best wines and blend them to make something new?
Without the blending experience we would have had such a fantastic day. We got to taste the the new release of the Grenache and Guardian Angel (premium, limited release Shiraz) which were both amazing. Can't wait to get our allocation of the Guardian Angel.
We also got to try (and blend) the '23 The Suit (Cabernet), Dedication (Shiraz) and Money Nut Merlot. Every one of these was beautiful but I must say The Suit is an absolute peach. If this one doesn't wine some serious awards,...
Read moreA True Barossa Gem – Kies Family Wines Our recent visit to Kies Family Wines in the Barossa Valley was nothing short of exceptional. This family-owned winery is steeped in heritage, sourcing fruit from some of the oldest vines in the region – a legacy that demands and receives the utmost respect in their winemaking process. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that passion and care are at the heart of everything they do. Their wines are a standout in the region, showcasing both tradition and innovation. I was particularly impressed by the Spring Rose Shiraz – bright, clean, and beautifully fruit-driven. The Tawny Port was another highlight: deep, rich, and perfectly balanced. And the Guardian Angel Shiraz was a showstopper – bold yet refined, with a lingering finish that spoke volumes of the vineyard's character. We enjoyed a relaxed family lunch under the picturesque outdoor pergola, where the setting, food, and attentive service all exceeded expectations. The team was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable, making our visit even more memorable. I would highly recommend Kies Family Wines to anyone visiting the Barossa. Whether you're a seasoned wine lover or just beginning your journey, this is a must-visit destination that truly embodies the spirit...
Read moreI love calling in to Kies Family Wines when we head out to the Barossa. The winery and cellar door is situated in one of the most scenic parts of the valley. Nothing better than looking over the vines to the hills maybe spotting the odd roo here and there while enjoying a bite to eat from the Monkey Nut Cafe. Of course also sipping on one of the fabulous wines on offer. The cellar door where you get complimentary wine tasting is cozy and full of character. The staff are always helpful and friendly and there will nearly always be a family member from Kies floating around somewhere only too happy to have a chat. Also if you get the chance to take the Winery and Barrel Hall tour hosted by Kies winemaker Bronson Kies you'll get to see the recently built state of the art winery....very fancy! Kies FAMILY Wines....the name says it all...they will make you feel a part of their family.... genuinely! We always look forward to the next visit...I hope you'll feel...
