Central Gardens — Attraction in Melbourne

A delightfully serene park in the centre of the chaos of surrounding suburbia, The Rocket Park, as it is known by locals, is as well known in Hawthorn as the beloved Hawks.

From the moment you first climb the famed rocket namesake, you will forever remember fondly this gentle giant of a landmark that lends itself to the dreams and inspirations of its junior patronage.

However, it's not just for the little folk, even as a teenager the facilities and tranquil surrounds are a soothing respite from one's study or family dramas. A place where you can clear your mind and focus on what really matters, or just kick a ball across the grass.

As an adult, BBQ's become the draw, remembering days of old when you were nimble enough to climb the rocket to its tip at the zenith of your athletic years.

Now looking back, I can't imagine a life without this wonderful treasure, of all my pets who one by one, thrived on their journeys of discovery to the rocket park.

Central Garden's Park is a smallish park in Hawthorn, across the road from Swinburne Universities main Campus. Beautifully maintained gardens with some really nice tree specimens. The enormous fig tree in the North Western corner is one of the largest I have ever seen. There are Robo Toilets in the centre of the park: 3 units with disabled facilities installed in an old brick building. There is a children's playground on the Eastern side of the park with one of the very few Rocket climbing frames left in Australia, around 2 stories tall.
