Knox Community Arts Centre (KCAC) — Attraction in Melbourne

I visited Knox Community Arts Centre in February 2025 to see Chicago performed by a local theatre company, and it was such a lovely experience. The venue is a great space for community theatre, and I really admire their commitment to supporting local productions.

The location is central to Knox and easy to get to. The foyer out the front is spacious, giving people plenty of room to mingle before the show and during intermission. The snack bar had a good selection of food and drinks, and the whole venue felt really versatile. A live orchestra was set up in a dedicated room next to the audience, and it was well equipped to stay in sync with the performers on stage, everything ran so smoothly.

We were seated towards the back of the theatre, which meant heading up a side staircase, but the raised stage (about a metre high) gave us a great view of the entire performance. While the seating was a bit tight, the theatre fit a good sized crowd and had a cosy, community feel.

Overall, I really enjoyed the friendly and welcoming vibe of the venue. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into making it a supportive space for local talent, and I truly hope it continues to thrive with the help of...

A good theatre to work in, overall. The techs are very helpful, the stage facilities are about what you'd expect for the size, and loading sets in and out is a breeze. The dressing rooms aren't huge though, and the stairs in the middle of the backstage corridor are a bit surprising.

For the audience, most seats have a good view of the stage, the foyer is a good size, and the box office staff are helpful.

Very fun evening watching end of year dance group. Seats could be re-padded though. Facilities good and clean, although I noticed it was difficult for some people to make purchases at the canteen as it did not seem to be manned independently. The door ticket lady had to do two jobs. Also, the canteen was not very well signaged, and I had to ask when I was waiting outside the building, if there was somewhere close by to purchase...
