Chilli & Basil Thai — Restaurant in Melbourne

We were a table of 8 and when we arrived there was a child playing under a table with cut up bits of paper scattered around her and a bits and pieces on a table at the rear, I would suggest a bamboo screen to block the diners view from the clutter. Our table was dressed for us but all other tables were only dressed with paper covers. As our guests arrived some water jugs were put on the table. And orders taken for drinks and then meals although we ordered first we were the last meal out. All the others were Thai meals ours were both Stir fry. I liked that all the food was serve on hot plates. There were no complaints from our group on the food and we had a good night. I would also suggest that all the tables be dressed ready for service to make it look like a busy restaurant. (16 yrs in hospitality.) THE REALLY GOOD AND THE NEEDING IMPROVEMENT

We may have come on the wrong night. We could tell they were busy with lots of Uber type takeaway on a Friday night and may have been caught out with staffing.

Great ambience and decor, modern and tasteful setting. Very comfortable seating. Really Excellent food. My partner commented the dumplings were the best she had had anywhere recently. The green curry was excellent - throughly enjoyed it and took some home we got so much! The entrees were very well presented and great flavour

Needing improvement

Table service was a bit slow and a few essentials such as water on the table had to ask for. Had to ask for a bar service beer a couple of times.

I've been getting take away from this place for years. So often that they know my order and always remember my food allergies. The food has always been great. On the last two visits however I've left disappointed, empty handed and hungry. The first time i was turned away because they said they were closed. Open sign on the door and 50 mins before their official closing time. However i decided to forgive and tried again last night. When i said i wanted take away i was told i would have to wait 45 mins for my food as they had over 10 Uber Eats orders in front of me. The waitress then turned her back and didn't even listen for my response. I considered just ordering and waiting but didnt get the chance as i was then completely ignored. I left and went to Thai Tables and received service with a smile and had my food within 20 mins and the food was just as delicious.
