A must-see when in Murgon because it is the only site in Australia that records a such diverse vertebrate fauna dating from the early Eocene (55 million years ago), approximately ten million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs. Come away with an understanding of the formation of the continents, the origin of songbirds and mammals, and some great fossil displays. Allow at least an hour. Head up to Boat Mountain to really put all the puzzle pieces together, and you will walk through delightful rare vine scrub, hear a variety of songbirds, and stand at Danielās Lookout above the actual fossil dig...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreReally enjoyed our visit today, I wasn't sure if it would be good value for money but was very pleasantly surprised. If you're like us & mad about birds & the natural world the museum is certainly worth the trip. I'd like to encourage others to take time to listen to all of the videos that are available. Not only to hear about the archaeological finds in Murgon but also to hear the wonderful stories from Professor Mike Archer & the team. They tell more than just the facts & make the experience very easy & relaxed listening. One piece of feedback I'd like to suggest is that every child in Murgon, Cherbourg & other nearby towns get free entry. Just a suggestion. Finally... Thanks to the wonderful volunteers! Places like this wouldn't exist...
