The Captain's Cottage in Murray Bridge: Nestled in the charming town of Murray Bridge, The Captain's Cottage offers a truly delightful escape. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a sense of warmth and tranquility. The cottage itself is beautifully appointed, boasting a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. We particularly loved the thoughtful touches throughout, from the cozy fireplace that beckoned on cooler evenings to the well-equipped kitchen that made preparing meals a breeze. The location is simply fantastic. Situated close to the heart of Murray Bridge, it provided easy access to local shops, cafes, and the picturesque Murray River. We enjoyed leisurely strolls along the riverbank and exploring the local attractions, all just a stone's throw away. What truly sets The Captain's Cottage apart, however, is the genuine hospitality. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring our stay was nothing short of perfect. Their local knowledge and helpful recommendations truly enhanced our experience. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, a peaceful retreat, or a comfortable base to explore the Murray Bridge region, The Captain's Cottage is an absolute gem. We left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, with wonderful memories of our stay. We wholeheartedly recommend The Captain's Cottage and can't wait for the opportunity to return.

The history of Murray Bridge and its surroundings is captured at this enthralling museum in a 19th-century cottage. The property was built in 1890 by one Captain Adam Johnstone (1834-1905) for himself, his wife Mary and their nine children. Johnstone has an important place in the history of the region as when he arrived from Scotland in 1856 he came with the first two paddlesteamers for the River Murray. This form of transport would become the Murray’s signature. Along with details about the origins of local industries like dairy, animal farming and river trade, there are all kinds of interesting objects to see inside. On show are antique toys, artefacts from paddlesteamers, farm machinery, historic engines, black and white photographs a wealth of model boats and trains. The cottage also sits in extensive grassy gardens, where you can take a picnic on the lawns or under the gazebo.

Interesting place with lots of antiques on display. Gives a sense of what it was like to love in those times.
