I am giving this service a one-star! Based on the lack of consistency of meeting address and disgruntled staff member.
I waited at the address that was presented on the ticket in which we attended 35mins early. Another party arrived shortly after at the same meeting address. after waiting 30mins after the tour was meant to start and we still had no sign of a tour guide, we searched for a contact number or email. There was no contact information on the tickets or information in the ticketed document or online. I was able to find a number to call on google maps where I was waiting at the front entrance of the building. I called and got directions to where the actual meeting spot was, and we walked there. After arriving, it was already 45mins into the tour, and we asked the staff member onsite for a refund. She told me to call the number I had called before. After a brief conversation, the person on the phone said, "I don't have time for this; I have another tour to attend too. And for us to email her and she will give a refund.'' After emailing for a refund as requested, we were told it was our fault or not meeting at the attended meeting place and that the staff member we met onsite felt intimated by us.
If you are attending this tour, don't...
Read moreThe SOFA (Silly Old Farts Assoc) group chose a tour of Willow Court for our end of year function - followed by lunch at a pub of course.
The tour was excellent, if somewhat harrowing and sobering. Our guide, Shakira (ably assisted by her young daughter Aria) conducted a very informative tour for us. Her knowledge of the subject matter was excellent and she was easily and comfortably able to answer various queries put to her by individual SOFs.
The subject matter, with the treatment of inmates was difficult to hear. But it's easy to condemn previous generations without reflecting on practices today that future generations may recoil from.
All of us expressed our concern at the way the property is falling into rack and ruin! The short-sightedness of successive governments to fail to protect this site is appalling.
However the group of people hosting these tours are doing a very good job of making such tours accessible and raising the issue of restoration with the appropriate authorities.
Highly...
