People have been trying to capture the perfect wild seascape image of the cathedral rocks since the 1890's.. It is a breathtaking sight.. When you sum up the wild sea crashing waves against the old volcanic rock formations that have been eroded into unique natural towers of rock art... It is hard to take your eyes away... Access to viewing the cathedral rocks can be from within the car if you stop the car just at the start of the dip in the road, on cliff drive right after you drive past the last house on the street.. On the top of the grassy hill there you will find trails from people trekking down the hill towards the steep cliff.. Reaching the flatter coastal rocks of the cathedral rock area is possible but you have to hike down the ruggered steep terrain.. can be a difficult hike down depending which trail you take from the top of the hills... when the ocean tide is high with large waves, this area may be wet & slippery or partially submerged by the sea.
If you want a real close view of the cathedral rocks... It may be an easier option if you park at the last car park bay at jones beach & follow the trails on the grassy area at the top of the hill or just walk along the curve of the sandy beach till you reach the rocky coastal area of the cathedral rocks section; and do a light hike during low tide on the flat rocks till you have a great view of the natural cathedral...

Beach walk is much better - see the rocks 'grow' as you approach! Note: Low tide allows you to get right up to the...
Read moreIf you're a photographer like me, you've got to time this right. You need light, so go in summer, and low tide to get access. My guess is very late in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I was there in winter and low tide would've be at sunset. It's not sign posted but you will see it. Not for people with mobility issues. I returned at the end of February. Got the timing right, low tide around 4-5pm in summer and this time access was easy somewhere around Bombo Beach. Update...
