What a disappointment!! Go to Sobels Wines instead! It's just around the corner, more and much (much, much,...) better wines to taste for free and a much friendlier service!
Pepper Tree Wines doesn't deserve their rating. Lots of people mention the pretty gardens. It is, indeed. But if you want to see pretty gardens, go to Hunter Valley Gardens! It's the quality of the wines that matters, and it's just disappointing.
We went there on a friend's recommendation, so we were really enthusiastic about this place. But once we arrived the experience was totally disappointing.
The service and the wines really need improvement ! The lady who served us was really cold and we felt immediately rushed. Probably based on prejudices, she firstly didn't even mention that they have two tastings menus and decided that we would go for their cheaper classic tasting. After insisting, we finally took the classic and "premium" tastings as we had seen that there was also this possibility before entering into the cellar door.
We have been to many wineries before (in Europe and Australia), so we could say that we have some expertise now. The white wines have no flavour at all, we were sad to throw away almost all of their range after a few sips...The reds are ok but absolutely nothing exceptional. And their facilities... even some campgrounds have better facilities than this place. Toilets are really old, almost non functioning and dirty.
In a nutshell, their tasting and wines are bad and totally overpriced!! So please keep your money for other places which are definitely more worth it...
Read moreWhat a stunning Sunday afternoon experience at Pepper Tree Wines.
Arriving with our three young children, we were unsure about how the session would pan out. Low and behold, we were guided to the beautiful outdoor area which is not only breathtaking, but also fully stocked with large games like Connect Four and dominoes that kept the kids completely entertained.
Dave looked after us and was incredibly personable, generous and knowledgeable. His warmth made us feel like we were old friends popping around for a few casual drinks. There was no rush, no pressure and no superiority complex; just a guy who is passionate about his work, sharing it with people who were grateful to be pandered to.
The quality of the wines is always exceptional at Pepper Tree. Every wine is a journey across Australia, whether it hails from the Hunter, Wrattenbully or Orange. They are complex and indulgent, transporting your palate to places you didn’t know it could venture. What a rich and indulgent collection.
I could not recommend Pepper Tree more fervently. It was such a phenomenal afternoon, and we left with four standout bottles that we can’t wait to open at home. They’ll be sure to transport us straight back to the amazing afternoon spent out on the deck surrounded by a gorgeous backdrop the sounds of our busy children. Thanks Dave, thanks...
Read moreWe had high hopes for Pepper Tree as we had several extremely positive experiences at this winery in the past (for free, I might add). Travelling with a group of 5, we did the right thing and paid the $15 per person to taste and booked in advance. Imagine our disappointment when we showed up at our scheduled time, no one there to greet us, and when someone finally showed up we were told to "find a table anywhere" and were scoffed at when we asked if there was anything in the shade.
We were able to secure a dirty table a considerable distance from from the cellar door and when the same staff member came to unceremoniously dump glasses and the tasting list at the table, there was no discussion about why we were there, what wines we liked, or anything that would have assisted in making the tasting a memorable or enjoyable experience so we shouldn't have been surprised at the attitude we received when we asked to skip the whites on the tasting and go straight to the reds. We were disappointed that the staff member stormed off and left us waiting for another 10 mins before returning with a new tasting list.
The wines were lacklustre, not great examples of the regions they represented. Fair to say, the experience, like the wine, left a bad taste...
