The Big Rig — Attraction in Roma

Name
The Big Rig
Description
Long-haul trucks have been described as sweatshops on wheels. The typical long-haul trucker works the equivalent of two full-time jobs, often for little more than minimum wage. But it wasn’t always this way. Trucking used to be one of the best working-class jobs in the United States. ...

Got some great little gifts in the gift shop. We got a shirt and they kindly agreed to post another once the order came in... Thank you!! Not a bad little show. Get the 5.30pm night show rather than the 6.30pm if you are doing day and night. It's not very clear that the place closes at 5.30 & then you have to come back at 6.30 for the night show. We were advised that last entry is 5 so turned up at 5 and were told we had to be done by 5.30, then come back at 6.20 for the night show... The night show lasted for more than an hour (because of questions mainly) the presenter was knowledgeable and spoke well. The first part was held on the floor of the rig, which was great to create atmosphere. It would be good to have the posters/historical pictures on a screen for everyone to view at the same time rather than the presenter walking around holding them up for everyone to look at. The second part was an outdoor 4D theatre which was quite entertaining. You get a shot of Port which really is "fkng good Port" as per its name. Was a good show and if you're in Roma you should definitely...

We stopped by The Big Rig while passing through and had a pretty good time. It’s a laid-back attraction focusing on the history of the oil and gas industry in the area. The museum itself is small but packed with interesting information, especially for adults. The kids liked the outdoor displays, but we all agreed that a few more interactive features would have made it better. The night show was the highlight, with a unique presentation under the stars—definitely worth catching if you’re around in the evening. The staff was polite and happy to answer questions. It’s not a place you’d spend the whole day at, but for an hour or two, it’s a nice break. Family-friendly and easy...

Didn't have a lot of time to explore but whatever I saw was beautiful. Well maintained space with friendly people. So full of stories, culture and local history. I think kids will love this place. It has memorabilia: Roma Mugs, Beer holders, T-Shirts, Caps which all seemed good quality.

Personally I like work by local artisans and the pens I found here would give good brands a run for their money. Laquer based and Wood based pens by a local artist Alec Waldron. Absolutely love the finish and imagination. It's a pen in the shape of a bullet!! Whether it's for the memorabilia or the space, or the displays or the people, you got to love this place. Encourage...

History is definitely kept alive in pictures, mining machinery, vehicles, articles, and the fabulous nighttime show at this museum. I enjoyed the sign posted easy walk, and especially the climb (or catch the lift) to the top of the tower. Great views. The light show tour included a history lesson from the knowledgable staff, a welcome drink of port or juice, and the light show was so well presented, Concession ticket price $34, this was for both the self walk through museum & the night light show. (5:30pm every night). Thanks to Roma locals for keeping Australian outback history alive. Highly recommended.
