I attended your open day on the Sunday (10/11/24) at 1pm, and honestly I want my $10 back. I'd pay that to wander around on a random Tuesday whilst passing through town, roaming freely with an occasional volunteer sharing some insight. Zero info at the gate, stumble through the exhibits and randomly find a diagram to show where you are, taped to a random piece of rolling stock in that general area. For the most part you've already wandered through or by.
Absolutely zero itinerary offered, and not a single expert/guide for any section.
$50 to be crammed in a cab of a T or Y? Burnt snags? Scones out on the bench for lord knows how long? Any area that might provide some cooling (top of B box), keep the doors shut!
It was pathetic, ridiculous and not worth the 2 hour drive for the barely hour spent roaming. Also, turn the bloody aircon on...maybe some lights in the cars in the shed. It suddenly becomes a Halloween train with no explainable reason. Paying visitors just heading further in to the dark, not sure if that was allowed or part of the plan.
You plonk J515 at the gate, with zero explanation or guide. Not a single volunteer could even dust off Tanjil? We can reminisce in the years of dust and neglect? Bloody lovely!
It's alright, with that $50 cabride fee and all the fun the volunteers had screaming in 8th notch against the brakes... it was very apparent this was a publicly...
Read moreWe drove 2000 km's to see the Railway Heritage centre and have had this on my to do list for 40 years. I emailed twice in 5 weeks to ask for a tour. I arrived on a planned 5 day period at Seymour, and was met at the office. I was advised that I could take a few photos but not go into any sheds. I was also told "not to steal anything" (the first of 4 times I was told this). After a brief (all too brief) period I was approached by another gentleman and advised that they were too busy (there is a difference between "busy" and standing with your hands in you pockets!) and hurried me up by asking which loco I wanted to photograph. Asking for B74 I was told "it is in a shed" and "you can't go there because people steal things". I was then signed out and led out after taking 3 photos of S307 (only from certain angles because a forklift was there and I couldn't include that because it was very much not safe doing what it was doing). I asked to renew my membership and was told "just go online". I returned 2 more times in the hope of seeing a bit more, once told he was closing the gates come back tomorrow, which I did to stand at the closed gates and get ignored by the same guy who saw me. Extremely disappointing after a 2000 k journey and 40 year wait. Also paying membership in the past. A couple of old guys with the keys to all the toys and absolutely not willing to share. Thanks for...
Read moreNice place, clean toilets and good information, however, since I have been using the train service for a while, there is something horribly wrong in particularly in the mornings. This is in regard to air quality, the train pulls up and waits a while for everyone to get on, the metal roof that extends to almost the top of the train to keep everyone dry in the rain and provide shade entraps diesel fumes, not a little, smoggy heavy dark diesel fumes enough to make you sick. You have to jump in the train and shut the door relatively quickly or else it will enter the carriage.
Please, get some extractor fans placed in the metal roof, it will save hundreds of regular uses from cancer, no jokes, it's that bad it’s quite sickening. It would cost the government or council a few thousand to look after its people using their service. If someone has an air quality meter of sort, please bring it down here and post it, I think it...
