Great family-friendly harbour beach. Shark nets and small waves make it reasonably worry-free for parents, although because it's not a coastal/surf beach you should note there are no lifeguards. Good views out across the harbour. Easy access to food/drink at the kiosk (eat in & takeaway), and toilets - so you can satisfy the needs of both ends of your alimentary canal. The beach is very popular in summer (particularly school holidays and weekends) which means it can get quite crowded (by Australian, if not European standards). This also means nearby parking can be a problem at peak times. Also worth checking tide times - at high tide there might only be about 1-2 metres of dry sand between the concrete steps and the water.

Change rooms: open 7am-6pm daily. Drinking water: available free from "bubblers" (drinking fountains) in the area. Dogs (and other pets): not permitted. Smoking: not permitted. Accessibility: general area behind the beach should be manageable - mostly step-free grassy slopes and pavements. Disabled toilets are available in the changing room block. There are no ramps down onto the beach itself though, just a number of large concrete steps. Easiest chance at beach access is probably at the eastern end. Alternatively you could get halfway down via the tunnel leading from the changing rooms. Apparently there are a few disabled parking spots in Greycliffe Avenue. Kiosk outside seats are accessible; inside requires negotiating steps or asking for...

Stopped by on a whim, and it turned out to be a really chill spot. The beach isn’t fancy, but that’s what makes it great. Soft sand, not crowded, and the sound of the waves is all you hear. I ended up just lying down for a while, soaking up the peaceful vibe. Some people nearby mentioned a small shark that appeared on the beach a few days ago. Apparently, a kid named it tralaleritostralala, which was a bit funny. At first, I thought it was just a myth, but they seemed pretty convinced. It definitely gave the place a bit more character.

Known as Neilson Park to my family. This is the best beach ever. Memories of playing without fear of a rip or shark. This place should be protected and respected at all costs. Memories of my late Grandfather diving for sea urchins that we would later take home and eat fresh on crusty Italian bread. At one point you could bring a coal fuelled barbeque but that was slowly phased out and only gas was allowed to cook with. In the 80's everyone went there from the Italians and Greeks to women draped in full niqabs. This was not just a multicultural haven but everyone went there and the...

It is a delightful little beach, but the crowds are a real detraction. On the warm to hot days during the holidays it is a bit crazy. There is clean sand, plenty of concrete steps to sit on and a decent strip of sand to spread a towel, if you can. There are lots of trees back from the beach and shady grass, and the crowds don't congregate there. The pavilion change room closes at 6pm And parking is about as bad as it gets, so go early, or late or park elsewhere and catch the bus for a few stops- check for routes.
